This has been requested multiple times, but unfortunately has always been rejected because some people think it would cause “unexpected” behaviour for some users.

The shortcut Ctrl+L still works though.

It took me very long to learn this shortcut. Thank you!

I have the opinion that every shortcut (or at least the main ones) should be referenced in the UI somehow.

This shortcut is mentioned in nautilus' shortcut dialog (which can be accessed via the app menu or Ctrl+?). I must admit that this dialog can be confusing, but I heard that there are plans to rebuild it for libadwaita.

also try thunar, it does this and when you start typing it does not start a search (which would freeze the entire app for me) but jumps to the first file with that starting letter. Nautilus is just ... special.

Cool, I will search it up. Thank you!
