Mildly Interesting

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

Just a little extra red dye 40.

[–] watersnipje@lemmy.blahaj.zone 36 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I always read “togo” as the African country first, not as “to go”.

[–] Spuddlesv2@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Wait is this a thing? Do Americans legitimately call it “togo”? I came in here to find out what sort of food togo was.

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 24 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No, we do not. We do say "to go" however. OP probably accidentally missed a space.

[–] CmdrShepard@lemmy.one 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

People mess this one up alot.

[–] SwallowsDick@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

It's weird how culturally ubiquitous some common smartphone typos become

[–] CrayonRosary@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

No. Normal people write "to go".

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago (3 children)

british ex pat in America. I have said "to take away" and been met with blank looks, until I corrected to "to go"

[–] CmdrShepard@lemmy.one 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think "take away" is valid too. "To take away" just sounds odd.

[–] Chetzemoka@startrek.website 5 points 1 year ago

Also "carry out"

[–] 1847953620@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

American. Can confirm. Highly regarded people are everywhere.

[–] Sinkbath@lemmy.today 1 points 1 year ago

I believe the yelp app uses take out, which sounds right.

I remember when anything from a chippy came wrapped in newspaper. I don't know why, but I really appreciated that as a kid.

[–] CuddlyCassowary@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Fish and chips vendor. Basically wonderfully greasy fried British street food.

[–] NathanUp@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There is nothing like a poke of chips. Somehow, something so simple truly has no analog in the US. I really don't know what they do so differently.

[–] SwallowsDick@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

More car oriented geography and more McDonald's

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Can someone translate for those of us on the other side of the pond...?

[–] Airazz@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Fish and chips shop. Traditional and delicious British dish.

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

Chips here meaning french fries in the US, not potato chips, which themselves would be crisps in the UK.

[–] GiveOver@feddit.uk 4 points 1 year ago

It's what British people call a drug dealer. It comes from the word chipper, meaning perked-up

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Or, in this context, a British fish & chips shop

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I suppose being wrapped in newspaper would make it feel more scruffy and home made

[–] NathanUp@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't think it was that - the way they wrap it is very quick and professional looking. The texture was nice in particular - a warm parcel of newspaper. Idk.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That reminds me of how they wrap burritos

[–] NathanUp@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

Same energy

[–] Send_me_nude_girls@feddit.de 19 points 1 year ago

Cancer bread

Mildly infuriating, they weren't supposed to have the oils touch the inks

They should have wrapped it on the other side

You should ask a refund

[–] Cheems@lemmy.world 78 points 1 year ago (2 children)

This place is in the middle of nowhere and it was a biker dive bar, I sure as shit am not asking for a refund haha.

[–] Luke_Fartnocker@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

Don't ask for a refund; demand it. Threaten them if you have to. Tell them you'll bring the pain if they don't give you your money back.

In all likelihood, it's rated for direct food contact on both sides, like the stickers on fresh fruit; you're meant to be able to safely eat them (although you may not want to).

[–] SatyrSack@lemmy.one 16 points 1 year ago

I EAT STICKERS ALL THE TIME, DUDE!

[–] thekernel@kbin.social 11 points 1 year ago

[–] Nurse_Robot@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Where on earth do you get your information from

[–] AlboTheGuy@feddit.nl 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] Cheems@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It was actually ok. I wouldn't say it was great, but I enjoyed it. It was a Philly cheese steak.

"You have cancer now"

"Yeah, I totally have it, but I had fun, it's fine"
