My second monitor has a Roku plugged into it. Somehow Roku is even less lonely than just watching a livestream in my browser. Idk, TV brain from being raised with cable.

The cure for male loneliness is to crank one out over your fancy new body pillow.

The sad part is that there's a not insignificant number of people out there who would honestly rather embrace the human instrumentality project and never look back.

It's established scientific knowledge that people who are suicidal don't actually want to die. They just want to make the suffering stop.

I mean, yes, in general every person is speaking for themselves. In this case I'm just reporting what people with suicidal ideation and survivors of suicide attempts report in therapy.

[–] demonquark@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

I joke, in bad taste. You are right, though The facts are clear. Most people who are suicidal are just looking for a way to stop some type of suffering.

Having said that, I do think it’s important to recognize that this does not apply to all “suicides.” An old person who wants to end their life, because they feel that they’ve lived a full life is technically suicidal. They deserve the right to end their life.

Except he's right.

[–] BudgetBandit@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago

In my understanding they want to kill a part of them. The part that makes them suffer.

Throw a suicidal person into the ocean and they'll still tread water

[–] EmoDuck@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago

Don't kink shame me for wanting to become fanta

[–] Theharpyeagle@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

It might be the Third Place, which has slowly disappeared as people spend more and more time either at work or at home.

[–] RIP_Cheems@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago (2 children)

What the fuck is the third impact?

[–] microphone900@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I have no idea, it's something to do with the Evangelion anime anime series. I read the wiki and I'm still confused. It's like the third global apocalypse or something.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yes. Evangelion is a bunch of Christian mythos metaphors, the 2nd Impact is analogous to the Rapture, the 3rd is when the Kingdom of Heaven descends on the survivors or whatever.

Aka, kills everyone's physical forms and all our consciousnesses get merged into the Great Jungian Subconscious in the Sky, referenced in the series as the human instrumentality.

Which is the actual Abrahamic tradition of heaven, btw, returning to Oneness with God, not sitting on clouds watching your grandkids jerk it.

Evangelion is a great show, and every nerd should watch it at least once, if only so we can share the experience of saying "wtf was that" and researching the ending on the Internet.

[–] RIP_Cheems@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I'll ask my friend. I don't know how, but he seems to know a lot about random anime.

[–] lelgenio@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

If you have not watched evangelion, you should, it's pretty good and pretty short (the entire series is 10h).

Spoiler for the ending of evangelionThe third impact, causes "Human Instrumentality".
Human instrumentality is when the barrier that separates one soul from another is broken.
When that happens, everyone must face the reality of their true self and of other people.
At least four episodes in the show are mostly in this state, completely detached from the real world, exploring the mind of the characters.

I'm considering getting a VR headset. The virtual club is open, the real club... Probably is too but I'm kind of a coward 😞

For all of these reviews we have now, it can't give me a feel for what I can get out if a venue. Good food? Fine. Can I meet people? Can I dance? Will they be accepting of me being ~~a little~~ very different?

Like there is a whole world out there to explore, but I was raised to believe I didn't have to find out for myself. That the answers about where to go, what to do, and what it the best time would just be handed to me. Gotta ask the right person or find out for yourself.

If by cure you mean, to confuse you to a point where you actually forget your own problems... Then yes.
