Don’t need him, and doubt he’ll come as cover when he could stay in place and do the same thing.

Other areas need looking at first

It has been suggested that Arsenal value Smith Rowe at around £50m, but FFP rules would almost certainly force Newcastle to be creative when it came to putting together a deal for the attacking midfielder.

Yeah, I don't see us budging on that and I don't see Newcastle paying it either.

[–] Acrobatic_Machine@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Probably around the same value as Gordon.

To reduce the spam of reports regarding the same move during transfer windows we try to allow only one submission about each transfer saga per day. The submission in question also needs to contain relevant new information regarding the potential move, and not just being a "no/minor developments" report.

If there are important/official developments or new valuable information about a saga, we will allow extra threads in the same day, but for the rest of minor news please just comment them as a reply to this comment. Please help us reporting unnecessary threads for being duplicates.

Smith Rowe isn't a bad player but surely there's better value for money elsewhere? It's not like they're in desperate need of HG players

[–] sheikh_n_bake@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

We love English players clearly.

Signed Gordon, Hall, Livramento, Barnes, Pope, Ashby, Burn, Trippier, Targett alone since the takeover.

[–] Morsrael@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's OK they will just get another totally legitimate market value sponsorship.

[–] baron_warden@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Replace? We have a geriatric (though very good) Willian on the wing. We need players.

[–] ro-row@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

sure but it's not an immediate process, you build, you consolidate, you build again

[–] kruegerc184@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It was a pretty serious surgery iirc, like hip-flexor groin area

[–] MiguelAlmiron@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No ones arguing that its just that there's no value in the English market. All those players were extremely cheap bar gordon and while it's fine having 4/5 English players in your squad but there's no point limiting yourself by just having a one nationality team.

I'd prefer we looked elsewhere in regards to ESR because he simply doesn't solve the issues we have (creativity).

[–] MiguelAlmiron@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's worked so far but if we wanna reach the next level this method simply won't work.

[–] game-of-snow@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It'd be funny if smith rowe ends up starting ahead of Willock. Because that's how we ended up selling willock

[–] Comrade-Conrad-4@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Arsenal have to get him starting more. At least in cup matches. Unless Arteta really is taking his time with him because of the long term injury.

[–] sheikh_n_bake@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yes that is the figure quoted in the article I posted.

[–] thatguyad@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The most Newcastley signing.

[–] MiguelAlmiron@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

All of our best actually were from abroad.

[–] RafaSquared@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I think he’s quite a good player but don’t see where he’ll fit in at Newcastle. Surely that money could be spent better elsewhere.

[–] MiguelAlmiron@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It definitely could but Eddie has an obsession with PL proven.

[–] QuietRainyDay@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Man, this thread is severely underestimating ESR

His development has stalled but he has bags of talent.

With game time and trust, there is a good chance he develops into something really special. People need to rewatch some of his 2021-2022 games (when he was still 21). He has more potential than Gordon, Willock, and Barnes, 100% certain of that. He can just do more.

Obviously cant be sure that he ever gets back on track, but the potential is worth a sizable investment IMO

[–] MiguelAlmiron@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I know, still think Trippier Bruno and Isak are far more important this season than Gordon. You can have an off game for Gordon and still win, an off game for Bruno means a loss.

[–] Right_Wear3800@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

People have been calling for Bruno to be dropped up until the last couple of games. Trips is absolutely essential though, no doubt.

Isak is hugely talented, but it's not like Wilson hasn't been scoring.

[–] four_four_three@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Idk about that, he played in that role when he started to get regular starts for us and completely changed the balance of the team for the better. Finally had someone to link the attack up

[–] RafaSquared@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Aye 30 odd million on Hall seems a strange one given he doesn’t quite look ready for first team football. Gordon and Livramento have looked good so far but realistically Livramento will just be a bench player unless Tripps gets injured and it was a big portion of our budget to spend on backup, same goes for Barnes really, he isn’t getting in over Gordon.

[–] sheikh_n_bake@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yes plenty of competent teams have struggled at SJP.

Aston Villa, Tottenham, Brighton, Manchester United, Man City, Arsenal have all been beaten at SJP since the takeover.

[–] four_four_three@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The games against Chelsea, West Brom and Newcastle in the Cup were all top performances and they were before Ødegaard was signed

[–] robstrosity@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Considering the price for Gordon was 40-45m then 50m is really good value. That's a fair comparison as they play similar roles and are both English. ESR is better than Gordon. The only real worry would be his injury record but if he can stay fit then 50m is more than fair.

[–] QuietRainyDay@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Utter nonsense

Arsenal have better players than both ESR and Gordon on the wings rn, thats why they might sell him (and they clearly arent desperate to do it if they want 50M anyway).

Just because Arsenal has better players and need to find a way to cash in on ESR before his deal expires doesnt mean he doesnt have more potential than other teams' players.

[–] The_Mercian@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He’s playing football manager in real life, determined to build a world beating squad only using Englishmen

[–] FedeSwagverde@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Forgot he even existed tbh

[–] MiguelAlmiron@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Not sure he's what we need.

[–] Ajax_Trees@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I thought this would be a cut price deal if arsenal wanted rid. 50 mill really wouldn’t be value

[–] wowohwowza@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

£50m is far too much, but I do think ESR is a great player that deserves more playtime. He was explosive at the end of the 21/22 season, such a great super sub.
