Once again, Gen X is ignored/forgotten.

We had better things to do than watch TV. We were all being beaten and molested by relatives.

Who chased us around with rolling pins trying to bake us into pies

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 21 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Also the silent generation, since Tom & Jerry came out in 1940.

They can speak up for themselves!

Gen X skipped, again. As usual.

[–] hactar42@lemmy.world 20 points 11 months ago (1 children)

As a fellow gen-xer...whatever

[–] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

We had Eek the Cat. Superior in every way!

[–] vic_rattlehead@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Certainly had a metal intro.

Aaaaaahhh!

100% boomer humor. The jokes are so dated, they literally changed the housekeepers voice to sound less racist than the original version.

[–] rockerface@lemm.ee 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The best jokes are the ones that don't need the voice though

[–] GrammatonCleric@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That's just slapstick humor, something all cartoons back then had.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago

We know Tom and Jerry because it holds up and is funny now. Look at the other cartoons and see the quality difference. They are unfunny by today's standards and probably not great when they were released.

[–] Buffaloaf@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Yeah there was a lot of racism, at least in the beginning. e.g.

[–] Kiosade@lemmy.ca 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Wow I thought Jerry dressed up in blackface was the shocking part, then it showed the actual islanders… they didnt even look human 😨

[–] MindSkipperBro12@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

We must’ve watched different shows then.

[–] GrammatonCleric@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

There are literally two versions of the OG cartoons.

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee -3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Because as we all know, you can identify racists by the sound of their voice.

[–] GrammatonCleric@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

No, the voice was a racist depiction of a black housekeeper. Read up on it, or find the old versions.

I made the mistake of watching the new Tom and Jerry. Let's just say, I'd advise you forget it even exists. There is no new Tom and Jerry.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 19 points 11 months ago (2 children)

...I didn't know there was a new one.

[–] rockerface@lemm.ee 19 points 11 months ago

Please continue doing so

[–] HeartyOfGlass@lemm.ee 6 points 11 months ago

As long as a copyright makes money, there'll always be reboots.

[–] rustyfish@lemmy.world 16 points 11 months ago

Humor based on pain will always be timeless.

[–] wowwoweowza@lemmy.ml 6 points 11 months ago

Entirely rejected by GenX

Tom and Jerry have changed quite a bit over the years.

[–] MxM111@kbin.social 3 points 11 months ago

Humor never changes. Only the setting.
