/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

Is Tuvix managing other positions single-handed, or are there many Tuvices?

[–] brem@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

They exist in a state of quantum entanglement.

It would be paradoxical to quantify them directly; resulting in a Tribble situation.

Dr Umbengabones is the perfect lead for my Zombie Trek (Star Amble?) series!

This is a fantastic list!

I'm getting a request from a "HAL 9000" to join the AI Rights council. Should we open frequencies?

[–] klu9@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Open frequencies? I'd be happy if he'd just open the pod bay doors!

[–] brem@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 hours ago

I'm sorry Dave, it can't do that.

[–] themoken@startrek.website 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Great list. I think you and I might be the only people that actually liked Dark Matter, everyone else seems to write it off as wannabe Firefly and that's... not inaccurate, but I still enjoyed it, haha.

[–] brem@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Dark Matter was fun, so was Killjoys. I watched both when they were airing.

That's the thing, looking back...it's easy to compare those types of shows against everything better that came before. However, at the time; it was just new material. I go into these situations with low expectations so as not to be disappointed.

They can't all be zingers, right?

Edit: after re-reading this in a more enlightened state (1 day older & a bit less intoxicated), I've come to a better conclusion... We generally look back and only remember the best & worst things. Mediocre or "it was okay" get forgotten.

The shoulders or taint of the giants on which we stand get left behind.

[–] klu9@piefed.social 4 points 2 days ago

It's been so long between the last time I saw Firefly or Serenity and when I started watching Dark Matter (only a few months ago), the comparison didn't even occur to me.

There is some overlap, but IMHO not much more than any other "rag tag group of fugitives on a powerful ship" sci fi. Speaking of which, only after I posted did I think "oh, I forgot to find a role for Avon from Blake's 7."

My first thought was, “what, like captain Galadriel? Chief engineer Gandalf, doctor Arwen and nurse Gimli?”
I’d watch that.

Kimli: I have taken my worst wound at this duty assignment… having looked my last upon that which is fairest. Henceforth I will call nothing fair unless it be her promoting me.

Parisolas: What was her gift?

Kimli: I asked her for one pip from her golden collar. She gave me none.

[–] brem@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago

Fool of a Tuvix!

[–] brem@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Nurse Femli could maybe try 'n fix me.

Please mess with the knobby bits of the transporter next time, chief engineer Nightwatch Admin. We'll fudge up the stardates and logs so Admiral "Whatever-Today-Is" doesn't fire us.

Aww. You really did something to me with this one.

Party Compilator. Is that a landing party compilator or a birthday party compilator? Either answer is acceptable.

[–] brem@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

It's not easy keeping track of all the different birthdays when you have to take into account so many different variables.

That was pretty good, thanks. Might have to give the full thing a watch. I didn't even consider recruiting outside of Starfleet. I could get Andrew Bird as the ship's computer (but he just whistles everything). Hair Seldon as counselor. Master/Blaster or maybe Dracula for security detail.
