It is grassroots action like this that genuinely makes me proud of my country

You can be proud of the small minority of us IN the country that resist. But this country is not something to be proud of. That's like saying your proud of Germany as a country in the 1930s because Jewish and communist militia's fought the rise of Hitlers brown shirts.

You can be proud of those people. But it's weird to direct it at "the country" because it's essentially resisting everything that that country represents.

Your country is the mythical idealization of the State that oppresses you and your neighbors. Nationalism is a mind virus and patriotism, even "liberal" patriotism, is a manifestation of the nationalist mind virus.
