I remember this very well and I remember people thought it was dumb then too.

Almost none of these songs make sense. Even those that do, don't. I'm also pretty sure my local rock station played some of these at the time but I'm not sure I was aware of this list at the time. It says suggested so I guess it didn't matter. They also didn't censor songs so probably didn't care.

That list would unironically make a pretty decent playlist!

On the list: Imagine, by John lennon

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today... Aha-ah...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace... You...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world... You...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Censorship is alive and well.

Always has been. It has been a constant fight for those who believe in free speech and those who don't. Sometimes the believers are ahead, sometimes it's the non believers. Being ahead builds complacency and fosters resentment, ergo the back and forth. It constantly needs to be fought for or it goes away completely. The fight is never ever over.
