Changing the fixed dollar amount of minimum wage is only a temporary fix that guarantees another uphill struggle in the future
Minimum should be tied to cost of living changes not a specific dollar amount that has to be fought over way after minimum wage no longer meets the minimum cost of living
$30 isn't jack shit in NYC.
It's currently $16.50
Yeah even on the shithole east side of Cincinnati nobody pays less than $12 and you can't live on that here. $30 isn't at all radical for NY.
I live cheap in a redneck chunk of Florida. $15 is the minimum wage and two people can't squeak by with that in just about any dwelling or situation.
And I'll tell you what a native New Yorker friend told me when we visited Manhattan in 1991.
"How does anyone live on minimum wage here?!"
Laughing, "Man! Nobody gets paid minimum wage!"
Anyway, $30 sounds like rock-bottom. Not criticizing the guy, just saying $30 is the least they should aim for.
