As Tehran residents evacuated the capital in increasing numbers, Israel’s defence minister, Israel Katz, threatened to make Tehranis “pay the price” for Ali Khamenei’s decision to keep firing missiles at Israel in retaliation for the Israeli attack.

This is literally an adult... saying "why are you hitting yourself".

[–] b161@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Defending yourself when Jews start genociding you is so antisemitic.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Iran has the right to self defense just like Israel, so are they not now justified in killing 30x as many civilians like Israel does?

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 67 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

Jesus christ I’m getting a bit worried that Bibi’s gonna pop some canned sunshine. Fuck me.

[–] AnalogNotDigital@lemmy.wtf 37 points 2 weeks ago

Canned sunshine is the most terrifying and badass name I've ever heard used to describe a nuke.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 10 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Does Iran have operational nukes? They'd probably respond in kind. If not, they'd probably launch basically everything they have at Israel.

~~Pakistan has made guarantees that they will retaliate with their nuclear weapons if a nuclear strike occurs on Iran.~~

EDIT: I went to find a source and Pakistan has walked this back and are denying that they ever said it

Well that ups the chances that Israel will use one. That was the one thing I was hoping would stop them

[–] Deflated0ne@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Pakistan already played spades. Told Israel they would use theirs if Israel uses one on Iran.

They do not, that’s kind of what this whole deal is about dude. And they’ve been launching what they have at Israel for a few days, it’s not much.

[–] waylandyr@lemm.ee 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's not much? They broke through the iron dome, that's a bit more than not much my dude.

[–] torrentialgrain@lemm.ee 1 points 2 weeks ago

It’s not nothing but Israel is bombing targets on Iran's eastern border right now, that speaks a clear language.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Most countries, Israel included, don't possess the material for a protracted war. Most Non-US countries can make war, at best, for six months.

[–] torrentialgrain@lemm.ee 1 points 2 weeks ago

They just have to make war longer than Iran.

[–] IphtashuFitz@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Even if they don’t have any nukes that they developed themselves, there’s always the possibility they could’ve bought one or two from North Korea…

[–] Deflated0ne@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

If anyone does. It'll be Nosferatu. All to cover his own ass. Because once he's out as pres he's going to jail for a loooot of corruption apparently.

[–] gcheliotis@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don’t think they will, but I’ve been thinking that one way Israel could get current and potential future enemies off their back for good would be if they finally showed the world that they do possess nukes and are not afraid to use them, possibly by making an example of someone. I do hope they won’t prove quite so callous.

[–] NobodyElse@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

If that happens (and I hope it doesn’t, but they’re crazy enough to do it), can the west stop supporting them and leave them to their own devices?

[–] raltoid@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, he seems narcissistic enough that he really doesn't think there would be consequences.

Hopefully there are other people around him who doesn't want the rest of the world aiming everything they have at them.

[–] korsystems@lemmy.ml 25 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Proof that Iran needs the bomb, and quickly.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

Yup. Going nuclear is now an existential need for Iran.

[–] faizalr@fedia.io 23 points 2 weeks ago

Pathetic act by Israel.

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 weeks ago

The Gaza playbook.

Joshua/WOPR: SHALL WE PLAY A GAME?

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz -3 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Why is Isreal bullying Iran they didnt do anything to deserve this.

[–] Mrkawfee@lemmy.world 29 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Netanyahu has had a hard on for regime change in Iran for 30 years. Israel wants to destroy every country in the region that is pro Palestine. With the help of the US neocons, he has virtually succeeded; turning Syria, Libya, Iraq, Sudan into failed states that pose no threat to Israeli hegemony.

This policy was first set out in the 1980s by Israeli strategist Oded Yinon who called for breaking up Arab states into weak, sectarian mini-states (Sunni, Shiite, Kurdish, etc.) fragmenting states in the Middle East to weaken them

[–] ISOmorph@feddit.org 21 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Bibi has to keep the war going or he'll lose control over his dictatorship

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 2 weeks ago

the main reason is staying out of jail.

[–] Cocopanda@lemmy.world -5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I would t call what Israel is doing as a genocide. Not yet at least. But we clearly are seeing how Russian air defenses are basically useless against American 5th Gen fighters.

Maybe Russia needs to figure out their shit before they sell defensive systems that do nothing.

[–] Gsus4@mander.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Hm, I've had this feeling that I can express thus: these missile exchanges, decoys, air defense saturation and "War of the Cities" feel like dry runs for nuclear exchanges. They are perfecting the launch and psychological warfare tactics.

[–] Cocopanda@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Israel will never use a nuke. That would be the end of global economies. They care about money more than they care about nuking Iran. They don’t need to nuke them. They have complete air control. They can do whatever they want with explosives now.

[–] Doom@ttrpg.network 2 points 2 weeks ago

It's always serious and prep at the same time.

They're seriously fighting over resources and land, and prepping for the future wars to come because everyone knows the resource wars are around the corner
