Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Actual Bernie Sanders: "the protestors are giving Trump what he wants" 🤔🤔🤔

[–] Chivera@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Didn't he say we shouldn't be violent?

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

From him i can sorta respect that though.

Remember, he was big into the anti vietnam war movement, which did kinda win, and it won with doing hippie shit and making them look silly.band he knows what the older forms of spicy air smell like.

I don't know that that applies here, but i don't take offense when he says it the same way i would from a total shitlib.

Basically 🤣

I didn't make the image, I just captioned it. I realize I'm dreaming a little (or a lot)

This could be one of those 'two wrongs make a right' situations, possibly.

Killing nazis is never morally wrong, dear.

Sometimes its not the right tactical or strategic choice, but it's never morally wrong.

I won't listen to anyone with bad trigger discipline like this.

Im sorry i reminded anyone that movie exists.

should have known better than to trust a politician with a gun....

look at that abhorrent fucking trigger discipline, he's going to fucking obliterate whatever is above him without knowing what lies above his target, or what damage will happen because of his negligence.

and, as always, a reminder for the rules of gun safety. you can never be too safe when handling a deadly weapon:

RULE 1: KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOU ARE READY AND WILLING TO DESTROY WHATEVER YOU ARE POINTING THE GUN AT

RULE TWO: NEVER POINT YOUR WEAPON AT ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY

RULE THREE: KNOW YOUR TARGET, AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT.

edit: lmao, whoever down voted this clearly doesn't know anything about guns. anyone not displaying proper gun safety is to be slapped, and their gun rendered safe until such time that they display proper safety procedures. these rules are universal, and taught the world over.

good luck not giving yourself a Darwin award, dumbasses.

'tis a meme, but thanks for the info. Very important to know

Okay but what if there's a bunch of flying nazis above him?

[–] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 45 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Have you considered that the downvotes are not in disagreement with trigger discipline but because this is a huge caps unnecessary rant on a photoshoped meme?

[–] HEXN3T@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Also just needlessly hostile--I'd literally agree otherwise, because I'm a firearms enthusiast (to an extent) and I'm very serious about safety.

[–] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

That one downvote i got happened about 20 seconds after posting it, almost like someone got notified about it and really didn't like it.

I laughed so hard it feels like a medal of some kind.

Excuse me sir, this is a ~~Wendy’s~~ a quickly photoshopped meme.

There's a Nazi in the rafters, obv

[–] PopcornPrincess@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

I agree about the responsibility of gun safety.. However, I’d suspect the downvotes are due to your comments on Bernie.

It’s laughable how poorly cropped the image is.

[–] Deme@sopuli.xyz 0 points 21 hours ago

Don't know if this is only taught here, or if you just forgot it:

Fourth one is to always know the state of any gun you're handling (Loaded or not, safety on or off and so on).

And the fifth rule: Always have fun! /s

I thought it's the noose for nazis and the guillotine for billionaires.

[–] Chivera@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

The only good Nazi is a dead Nazi

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

Part of the point of the guillotine was that everyone should be executed the same way, regardless of class.

But the executioners has to butt in and say "uh, guys, proper beheadings are hard and we literally can't do as many as you're asking."

So they made a machine to automate it, that every man (condemned by the state) should die like a king.

You know the rest. Or you don't. Don't look up what happened to Robespierre.

[–] synae@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 1 day ago

I'm not picky

[–] modus@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

I reserve the back side of a shovel for both.
