It's been almost 2 months since I bought myself the guitar pedal to celebrate 10 years sober.

Been playing every night for a couple of hours.

Still haven't gone through all the sounds it makes hahaha

This cold weather has got me being so lazy. I don't like it.

[โ€“] tone212_@aussie.zone 7 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Same and the early darkness more so for me. Itโ€™s a being productive killer. Once itโ€™s night my brain turns off.

Right. 3/4's of the house is clean.

Seems like the antibiotics I'm taking for the finger infection are pretty brutal.

Enjoy your day โค๏ธ

Edit: taking tomorrow off to try to recover from this cold.

As a non smoker, I am sitting on my upper terrace right now, in an absolutely deadly still night air, having my first alcohol in a long time (a small glass of whisky), and man I would kill for a fag/joint....

Have good nights, all. I dont comment much at the moment, but I enjoy your company nonetheless.

[โ€“] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 9 points 4 weeks ago (4 children)

I'm in pretty bad shape. The infection in my finger and the flu/cold that's coming on is pretty nasty.

Goodnight all, โค๏ธ

Went to the big shops today, bought 2 pairs of jeans and 2 jumpers in the sales. Was a bit busy in there but the sales were good and jeans were needed and a good buy.

[โ€“] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 9 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

We got back today. The trip was alright overall but everyone was a bit sick in different ways. The room was tiny, so I'll have to be not so cheap next time I decide to go somewhere.

It would have been alright but my girlfriend felt like she was going to throw up most of yesterday so we didn't have dinner out, which means the boys spent all evening wrestling each other in a tiny hotel room.

Otherwise, we did the dinosaur park, the mornington tourist steam train, and got a great tour of the flight training airport next to the hotel. It was a good trip but a little exhausting at times dealing with the kids.

There are things to do down that way if we went there again, but I don't think I'm going to rush down for another trip straight away

[โ€“] useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I lived and worked on the peninsula for many years. I even helped build the Mornington pier!

So I can tell you itโ€™s definitely better in the summer (beaches, markets, carnivals , festivals etc) yes a bit more crowded but a bit more action so book early.

I just want to roll up in a blanket burrito and sleep the day away but doing that will make me feel worse by night.

Wishing there was some kind of comfort to be found in life -_-

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 4 weeks ago

the comfort is in the little things

hugs

[โ€“] SituationCake@aussie.zone 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

If your body clock feels better to nap during day and stay up later at night, just do it! Youโ€™re not bound to any one elseโ€™s schedules, just do what is best for you.

Accountability thread!

Starting this for anyone who needs to do A Thing today. Will report back in eight hours with a unicorn if I've done anything.

I need an unaccountability thread. I'm on light duties at the moment. I want to do things, but can't.

A great short article on the signs of trauma bond/abuse

TW: abuse abc news article

Saw this - I'm glad people are talking about this stuff. It's so important.

In the culture of my parents, it was normal to stay with someone who's treating you like complete shit. For the kids who are growing up today, learning about this stuff in schools makes me hopeful about the future. Of course, not everyone will act appropriately. But the fact that we are even talking about stuff to do with relationships is so, so good.

am awake ๐Ÿซฅ

possums on balcony

cats are going crazy and fighting

noise woke me up

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 8 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I am awake also, which is good because falling asleep at work is frownded upon.

I definitely haven't missed the rampant possums from Melbourne, my old place had a very high possum density.

Mr Woof spent about 6 hours looking for me tonight, but does not seem as frantic as he did yesterday. Hopefully he doesn't take too long to start feeling secure here without me.

[โ€“] bacon@aussie.zone 10 points 4 weeks ago

We miss possums, but squirrels are rampant here and they invoke childhood memories.

I found this incredibly interesting. It's the first I've heard of any doubt about Lucy Letby's guilt. Lots of interesting points raised

[โ€“] TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 10 points 4 weeks ago (4 children)

Yeah, I saw that too but refrained from commenting here. Trial by Media is definitely a thing, and the current mushroom case is imo a prime example, and there are some people on this platform who have already made up their minds as to Erin's guilt even though the trial isn't over yet.

I am also old enough to remember the Azaria Chamberlain hooha too. Funny how this sort of thing happens to plain women who don't mirror the prevailing social norms for looks and/or behaviour. And has for centuries - the Spanish Inquisition, the witchhunt crazes of 16th & 17th century Europe and probably before then too.

Not news, what's news is that this article was written so soon after the successful accusation and 'punishment'. Usually there's a time lag of several decades eg Lindy Chamberlain. Or centuries - eg witchhunts.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 7 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

treating plain women poorly or as invisible is an unspoken thing done by many humans

often people who do it won't even acknowledge that's how they think and behave

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 7 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Iโ€™ve been both dolled up and plain and there is a tangible difference to how you get treated.

I choose to look plain these days just so I can get a clearer read on character.

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 5 points 4 weeks ago

Word. I wear no makeup, I don't have high-end fashion clothing, and I don't really do much to my hair or style it. The difference between me now and me 10yrs ago (when I did do those things) is funny and sad.

I'd rather do without all the extra stuff and, like you said, get a better read on character, than to doll myself up and question whether everyone is genuine or not.

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 5 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Yeah itโ€™s all very weird. In both cases I would love to know what really happened

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 4 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

100% agreed

While I do comment about Erin, I have not really made up my mind and my opinion will not change the outcome - there is a jury whose job is to do that (and the judge).

Lindy Chamberlain was such a phenomenon - so many TV shows and media made fun of her (thinking of that Seinfeld episode where Elaine says to the Aussie couple "a dingo ate your baby"), when it turns out that she didn't do it and the First Nations people were right - a dingo did take her baby. An example of society not listening to plain women (read: not a hot, skinny chick) and First Nations people. And what happened? They fucking found the baby's clothing in a dingo den - funny that.

Regarding this nurse, it was definitely trial by media, everyone already was talking about it like she did it and we were just waiting for the justice system to catch up. It sucks babies died, but it sounds like the hospital (specifically those wards) we're understaffed, so she picked up extra shifts. Statistically, if she picked up extra shifts and did overtime, she's going to be present for more deaths than other nurses who didn't. Her diary entries shouldn't be admissable, they were venting and trying to process the grief. Idk. It's fucked up all ways to Sunday.

I took Mr Woof on a bit longer walk today.

We found the neighbours who I've been hearing yelling a lot in the distance.

There are some really nice parks around here. They have retained all the old trees that were in the original paddocks and put native plantings around them, and there are a string of ponds that I assume were originally farm dams. There are also a few kid's play areas, sports areas and outdoor gym equipment. The park area runs along the side of the new estate, so at the moment you are looking out over farm paddocks as well. We saw lots of kangaroos, which is definitely not something I was coming across on my walks in Melbourne.
