Just nine? The dude has a sex cult island.

Just nine... for now

Give it time and there will be more than 9. Dude is a known problem.

The weird thing with Jared Leto is that I've never felt he's been very successful, yet he's always had bunch of people hyping him. I can't think of him being a leading actor in anything I've ever seen. He's always been lower down the bill. You look at all his award nominations on IMDb and 90% of them are "supporting actor".

So why is he a name? I always put it down to him being involved with the "right" people in Hollywood. Those people obviously being very wrong.

[–] Crankenstein@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

He is the lead singer of "30 Seconds to Mars". That's where his fame came from originally.

His appearance in movies has always been a weird "let's shove this famous guy from one media into this other one for publicity" kinda thing. Then for some reason he just stayed doing movies and here we are.

[–] Colalextrast@lemmy.world 12 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I mean... he's had plenty of starring roles, and his acting has won him both awards and acclaim. Requiem for a Dream, Mr. Nobody, Dallas Buyers Club, House of Gucci, The Little Things - and that's not including his clunkers. He's still an in-demand actor with 30 years of work behind him. Not everyone makes a career that good in Hollywood.

I think he's an asshole. But he's a talented asshole.

Lord of war was great

Hollywood is a network of interlocking blackmail. They all know each other's dirty little secrets and Leto has a sex cult island he's using as a honey pot to get a bit more dirt on other people then they do on him.

It's Morbin time.

[–] ipkpjersi@lemmy.ml 13 points 10 hours ago

I think there's a couple reasons. He did make some really good music, and he has a very recognizable face in that he kind of looks like Jesus lol

[–] LadyButterfly@lazysoci.al 5 points 10 hours ago

I think you could be right there. He's maybe just well connected

Haha so true

It’s kind of interesting how all of these guys will have these stories attached to them for years until anyone cares.

Sorta like Cosby - people knew, but nobody gave a shit until Hannibal Buress started calling it out.

They get away with it for years, live glamorous wealthy lives that give them access to tons of victims, and if they are ever punished it doesn’t last long.

[–] Darleys_Brew@lemmy.ml 14 points 11 hours ago

The thing is, people knew Jimmy Savile was dodgy…women spoke to people on set and even teachers, coppers caught him in awkward situations…the guy just went on and on til he died. I get why women don’t speak up cause there’s so much risk of ridicule.

[–] LadyButterfly@lazysoci.al 8 points 13 hours ago

Yep it's almost the perfect crime

[–] Zanathos@lemmy.world 54 points 15 hours ago (10 children)

I can't stand this asshole and don't understand how he keeps nailing acting roles in top movies of genres I love. Anytime I see him cast in a movie I'm interested in, it just deflates my anticipation to almost zero.

30 Second to Mars used to be top tier like 10-15 years ago, but after seeing him about 5 years ago I've lost all respect for him in all aspects of his career. He took the stage dressed like Jesus and proceeded to spin around for 3 hours while the entire crowd sand his songs for him. Absolutely abysmal show.

Hopefully this is the last we need to hear and see of this jackass, but time will tell.

[–] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 8 points 13 hours ago

30 Seconds to Mars was so bad when I saw them live that I left early.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 5 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I watched them 7 years ago, and it was an absolutely amazing show. He had great chemistry with the crowd and performed really well.

People have trouble separating the art from the artist. I don't blame them. It's tough sometimes. I used to really love Kanye before he turned out to be a nazi. Watch the Throne and Graduation are fantastically produced albums with some excellent songs. Same with College Dropout.

I still listen to them when they come up in my playlists but the magic is pretty well gone. I think that he was and is mentally ill so with the right people around him he probably wouldn't have turned into such a piece of shit, but here we are.

What will this mean for Morbius 2?

[–] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 8 points 10 hours ago

They might have to take the electric out of boogaloo.

[–] LadyButterfly@lazysoci.al 59 points 19 hours ago

Yep there's been rumours about him for years, this just confirms suspicions

I know the writer and editor had a lot of options to go through when choosing a lead photo for this story, but I think they must've simultaneously said "that's the one" when they got to this pic.

[–] drspod@lemmy.ml 99 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

They're really burying the lede here. The closing paragraphs of the article:

The woman added that once, when she was 18, Leto “suddenly pulled his penis out and started masturbating”. She told the outlet: “Then he walked over, grabbed my hand, and put it on him. He leaned in and said: ‘I want you to spit on it.’”

Another woman, Allie Teilz, a Los Angeles-based DJ and music producer, last month on Instagram reposted a 2012 Facebook status in which she had said: “Youre [sic] not really in L.A. until Jared Leto tries to force himself on you backstage… In a kilt.. And a snow hat,” Air Mail reported.

In her Instagram stories, which Air Mail reviewed, Teilz said: “I was assaulted and traumatized by this creep when I was 17 … He knew my age and didn’t care. What he did was predatory, terrifying and unacceptable.”

[–] gnutrino@programming.dev 54 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

Yeah, that seems a bit more than "sexual impropriety" (which sounds like hes's being accused of premarital sex or something).

Too bad he's not a US citizen, he would have been a great candidate for a role in the current administration has a special counselor for women's right or something. Maybe a gofundme? Golden citizenships are only 5 millions right now.
