Sadly she's probably one of the more moderate Germans from the last government. Germany as a whole, learned the most narrow lesson from the Holocaust and Munich Olympics; which, you would think would be "Genocide bad", but is actually "Israel good".

At least Baerbock has acknowledged the suffering and declared that "Palestine belongs to Palestinians". That's such a low bar but the majority of Germans don't clear that. It's very sad, but what can you do?

For so long anything critical has been labelled antisemitic and sometimes also made illegal. The first news org in Germany to do Israel-gov critical reporting would end up in court and might lose it's license.

Nonsense. She was one of the most fierce repressers of protests and deniers of genocide. If this woman would face trials like Nuremberg she would be executed.

[–] MoondropLight@thelemmy.club 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't follow German politics that closely, so I've probably missed something, but how was Baerbock involved in suppressing protests as Foreign Minister?

Her comments at the start of the genocide should be enough for her to lose her position in government. It is really sickening and sad. But when it comes to German politicians, I don't know any that are better.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml -2 points 2 days ago

She actively smeared peaceful protesters as violent antisemites. And she consistently said that Israel is not committing genocide.

Does it make you a war criminal if you simply agree with war crimes that others have committed?

Bit of a wide reach to call her a war criminal, no matter if you agree or disagree with her position.

[–] vala@lemmy.world 14 points 4 days ago

IMO I does if you are in a position of power like this.

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t the agreement with war crimes make you a sympathizer? The act of being a sympathizer is deplorable, but not illegal. I feel like a lot of people take their name-calling to the extremes these days.

Nuance left the building a long time ago.

[–] Bo7a@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago

And nuance left the door wide open for pedantry and contrarianism to come in and set up camp.

[–] ddash@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Exactly my point but I guess I need to "listen to myself".

Exactly my point but I guess I need to “listen to myself”.

Yeah, you fucking do. You're like "But is openly agreeing with genocide really a bad thing?" Like that isn't gross as hell.

[–] ddash@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Please work on your reading comprehension. That is not at all what I am asking. What I am asking is, if that is already making you a war criminal in contrast to simply a bad person. If you don't see the difference in that, I cannot help you.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

That is not at all what I am asking.

Your question was hair splitting in defense of a genocide supporting piece of shit. You just phrased it as a question.

Please work on your reading comprehension.

You need to quit gaslighting people for pointing out the only thing you're about.

If you don’t see the difference in that, I cannot help you.

You're only here to help genocide supporters.

[–] ddash@lemmy.dbzer0.com -4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Genocide supporting piece of shit, you are saying it yourself! You are not calling her a war criminal either, and that's the point here but you are not grasping that, so that's it from my end. Have a good life with your attitude.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I'm saying that at some point, you quit splitting hairs.

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You understand that that's just pedantry though?

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Pedantry in defense of genocide is the gold standard of centrist advocacy.

[–] Tatar_Nobility@lemmy.ml 18 points 4 days ago

It is still considered complicity in violating humanitarian law.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Does it make you a war criminal if you actively defend the people committing war crimes while helping to send them weapons?

[–] Soulg@ani.social 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Actively defend them? No it doesn't.

Sending weapons? At the very least you're an accessory to it, so I'd agree with that.

[–] dubyakay@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What? Actively defending war criminals makes you complicit.

[–] rbesfe@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Actively defending a murderer doesn't make one a murderer

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It makes you complicit, as the other person said.

[–] Soulg@ani.social 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Man there's thousands of people that murdered Brian Thompson then, huh

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Last I checked most people supporting Luigi aren't international leaders in positions of power, nor is he committing war crimes. So the situation of a leader in the UN defending Israel's war crimes and genocide is a far cry from the people oppressed by UHC and their kind being happy that Luigi took down one of the oppressors.

I'm not looking back on this thread at the moment, but iirc this is the one that made the distinction of her being a person of power. If it's not, then I guess ignore what I said or consider it in the context that the main issue to me and others is that she is a person who has direct power to enable Israel's reign of terror over Palestine. Making her complicit in the genocide.

I agree that Hitler should have been assassinated. Therefore, I am as much of a hero as those who tried.

[–] Noodle07@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago (2 children)

The assassination attempts failed, does that make you a failure ? 🤔

[–] Spzi@lemm.ee 10 points 4 days ago

I ... oh. Hey! Ow.

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

One succeeded, but you probably don't want people to feel the same way about you as they felt about the guy who killed Hitler...

If you enable it, maybe, kinda. Something close at least.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago

Does it make you a war criminal if you simply agree with war crimes that others have committed?

Jesus, dude. Listen to yourself.

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 4 points 4 days ago

Everyone is innocent until proven guilty.

However, persecution is an international crime against humanity, so if someone wanted to, they could make a case against her at the International Crime Court.

[–] loomy@lemy.lol 13 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Not 100% of everything is about the war in Gaza

[–] raltoid@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That is true, but she is an open defender of their actions. And has complained multiple times when UN tried calling them out.

[–] PanArab@lemm.ee 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

But you wouldn't want a genocide enabler in such a high position.

[–] loomy@lemy.lol 0 points 3 days ago

I personally, would like it if no one killed anyone ever.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world -1 points 3 days ago

But the genocide is the only reason anyone is defending her in this thread.

[–] deathbird@mander.xyz -1 points 1 day ago

"German Foreign Minister profers an invalid defense of a rogue nation's killing of civilians" to "she is a war criminal herself" to "Nazinazinazi".

[–] isekaihero@ani.social 1 points 3 days ago

She looks really young to be the wife of Adolf Hitler. Bathing in the blood of 100 virgins must really keep your skin looking young.
