I don't spoil my dog but I do consider expenses associated with him to be mental health costs.

Exactly! It's not like you need them to learn good habits to become self-sufficient workers when they grow up.
As much as we beg and plead him, our dog is never going out to get a job. Might as well spoil him with treats and belly rubs!
Our dog is an expert at doing dog things:
- Wagging
- Barking at neighbors
- Chewing bones
- Barking at package delivery
- "Sit pretty"
- Barking at squirrels
- Ball
- Barking at nothing
My dog can hear the UPS truck from way the fuck down the road and immediately gets pissed.
I've seen this a bazillion times but I will upvote it every single time regardless.
I would absolutely take the side of the pet owner in this case. Although not a pet owner myself, I have seen the love and happiness that pets give. It’s beautiful, and not for outsiders to judge.
That is my child. I birthed him. He has my DNA.
I totally agree with my dog when he wants more of the good stuff on his food because so do I on mine.
