According to a bombshell report from the Washington Post, the Department of Justice under Attorney General Pam Bondi is considering a plan that would let federal prosecutors investigate and indict members of Congress unfettered by traditional oversight designed to stop political persecution.

Traditionally, before such an investigation could proceed, a prosecutor would have their case reviewed by the lawyers in the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section. But that would go away under the new proposal.

The report notes that, should the proposal go into effect, "a long-standing provision in the Justice Department’s manual that outlines how investigations of elected officials should be conducted" would be shunted aside and allow possible prosecutions based purely on politics.

It's a GOOD THING Democrats DIDNT Prosecute ACTUAL CRIMINALS when they Had the Chance! THAT would have been POLITICAL! MAYBE Chuck Schumer will send an ANGRY LETTER from Prison!

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 10 points 2 days ago

Fuckin' putz thinks he'll get a more comfortable prison cell because he collaborated with the regime. Didn't learn fuck from his own history.

[–] 60d@lemmy.ca -5 points 2 days ago

Send the Bomb Squad! A new report just dropped!

[–] Linktank@lemmy.today 74 points 2 days ago (1 children)

God can you imagine the screaming they would do if Biden had done this. A cacophony of stuck pigs wouldn't be able to contend.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 44 points 2 days ago

We heard the screaming they did when they spent years building bullet-proof cases against Trump that were by the book.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 44 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Just like Nazi Germany back then. June 22, 1933.

[–] thorhop@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 day ago

Hey, woa. The new "History makes great leader feel owies" law has been broken. People in uniforms have been dispatched to your location.

Incidentally, your Spotify has been scanned ahead of time and you've been found guilty of having 1938 counts of DEI music.

Also incidentally, you'll get to ride the train line that has just been built! It goes straight to El Salvador.

Adding incident to incidentally, they have brand new showers that don't even use water.

[–] newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 44 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Maybe when they start arresting house reps people might pay attention.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 2 days ago (2 children)

You know they won't most Americans want this, whether they admit it publicly or not. It can be seen in how they raise their kids and kick them to the streets at 18 while ignoring how their futures are limited and how much they are struggling. "You're an adult, figure it out on your own" is an endemic attitude. Why do they even have children, who the fuck knows, Republicans aren't the only ones who don't actually give a shit about how their kids' lives turn out. "Fuck you, got mine" is everywhere.

[–] forrgott@lemm.ee 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I do not believe it is actually a majority. Way too many, either way, though.

But two big issues I see is that most of us are literally living paycheck, where any significant time spent unemployed will result in losing your home.

Number two is how well armed the military is. Not to mention how many times our government has already proven they are more than willing to mobilize the forces against civilians.

So, yeah, we're pretty much fucked.

[–] ExtantHuman@lemm.ee 13 points 2 days ago

Not even a majority of VOTERS wanted this, let alone Americans...

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

There's a lot to unpack here, but the title is sensational. So:

  1. This doesn't expand any powers the DOJ has

  2. This doesn't allow them to just indict whomever they want

  3. All the skilled litegators at DOJ have left the building, and only idiots remain.

  4. This group they THINK they can disband, cannot be disbanded, and their work cannot stop, so they THINK they are just going to sidestep it and do whatever Plam Blundy wants, but that's not going to happen for a number of reasons:

  5. Judges are slapping the DOJ down and admonishing them left and right in court

  6. They still need FEDERAL judges to even bring an indictment, WITH EVIDENCE OF A CRIME, in order to get a warrant, and then maybe arrest somebody.

  7. Federal Judges absolutely hate having their time wasted, and this DOJ has done nothing but waste their time

  8. Judges DO NOT have to keep wasting their time with the DOJ requesting indictments if they continue to prove in court that are acting in bad faith (mala fides). So maybe one or two tries at this, and the DOJ will never allow them to file for this bullshit again.

Blondie thinks she found something to scare people...nah. They can't do shit with this except make themselves look foolish, and get smacked down in court some more.

[–] Skyrmir@lemmy.world 31 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They're expecting the judges to push back so they have an excuse to get rid of the judges.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You can keep hoping and praying, but they can't do that either. At this point Trump just better try a complete overthrow, because this shit is getting nowhere, and will keep going nowhere.

[–] Skyrmir@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There are less than 2000 federal judges, the Federalist Society has over 70,000 members. They have the man power and motivation to replace them over night. At which point the law says what the fuck they want it to.

What's stopping them isn't that they lack the resources to seize total control. It's that they lack the resources to maintain control. And they're never going to have them.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

And how do you imagine Federal Judges who are appointed for life will be removed from their benches exactly?

[–] Skyrmir@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

By federal marshals who don't give a fuck. Because they already did it to a state judge, they'll go after federal next.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] wanderingmagus@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What is, de facto, stopping them, if they decide the Constitution and the law are toilet paper to wipe their asses with?

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm not wasting anymore time explaining the basics of what the constitution is to people who don't feel free to inform themselves and just doomNgloom bullshit in the comments like this.

Absolutely ridiculous.

[–] optissima@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Unable to back up your claim, non sequitur attacks. Keep at it!

Ermagosh!! You've totally caught me in a moment, and I absolutely cannot deal with my own inability to prove myself to someone who is too lazy to read about the thing they are trolling about because of their laziness.

BRB I'll go kill myself 😫😭😫

[–] BussyGyatt@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

come up with a better coping mechanism. this one sucks

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Do better research and understand more. Stop being willfully ignorant.

Example: what is the US if a rogue politician tries to dissolve the Constitution? It's certainly no longer a union, meaning DC doesn't get anymore money from the states.

Stop being intentionally ignorant, and start reading.

[–] BussyGyatt@feddit.org 1 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

you get a civil war, where that money is up for grabs if you can do enough violence to the other side. with control of the formerly-federal military in the hands of the goon dissolving the piece of paper, ...

idk bro it really just seems like thoughtless cope. try therapy or smth idk

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Lol, you apparently haven't thought about the organization of states, and who really funds this country. Do better.

Block

[–] BussyGyatt@feddit.org 1 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

mfw i catch unironic "do ur research:" 👩‍🔬

tyrants hate this one weird trick (what's actually in the constitution will shock you)

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 4 points 2 days ago

They will attempt to downsize and remove seats / eliminate circuits and jurisdictions, then create new ones. Yes that too will be litigated, who knows where it ends, but they will try

[–] GoodLuckToFriends@lemmy.today 7 points 2 days ago

They still need FEDERAL judges to even bring an indictment, WITH EVIDENCE OF A CRIME, in order to get a warrant, and then maybe arrest somebody.

Federal Judges absolutely hate having their time wasted, and this DOJ has done nothing but waste their time

Judges DO NOT have to keep wasting their time with the DOJ requesting indictments if they continue to prove in court that are acting in bad faith (mala fides). So maybe one or two tries at this, and the DOJ will never allow them to file for this bullshit again.

I'm sure they'll just start taking everything to certain judges to get them rubber stamped. We already know there's one out there who will publicly suck on trump.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemm.ee 12 points 2 days ago

Gosh, where have we seen this before? I really kinda forgot.

Wasn't it some dude named, uh, Hillter? And Bimmler? Maybe Ron Bibbentop?

[–] besselj@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I'm sure they won't regret doing this when the shoe is on the other foot

[–] optissima@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

What other foot? The one they're about to hack off?

[–] ExtantHuman@lemm.ee 15 points 2 days ago

This is the All-In move where they gamble there won't be another foot

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I'm sure they won't. "Moral High Ground" and other excuses from the DNC.

[–] vegeta@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago
