General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

And they ran him out of leadership by pretending that caring about Palestinians makes him antisemitic.

Zionism is a colonialist cult that protects a fascist apartheid regime to the detriment of not just Palestinians, but also Jewish people and the world in general.

Link

alt textA Tweet by Jeremy Corbyn:

“Many in our media are finally waking up to the unspeakable horrors that Palestinians are enduring in Gaza.

It is too late.

Israel inflicted these horrors because they were encouraged to do so, in part by a media class that failed to treat all human life with equal worth.”

Please don't just post random screenshots, link to where it's from in the post body. If it's from Twitter then proxies like Xcancel are preferable, to avoid directing traffic to Apartheid McGee's website.

They're not waking up to it, they always knew, they just chose to wait until it was too late to do anything.

"had we only known..." *weeps visibly* and the country goes "aww...."

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Liberals, as ever, condemn every atrocity except the current one.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 1 points 3 weeks ago

Well current one is done by the "good" people.... So oh well

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 16 points 4 weeks ago

It’s never too late. They can still be stopped before more people are hurt.

[–] Aksamit@slrpnk.net 11 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

My heart hurts thinking about how things could have gone were he allowed to become PM.

To be clear the only conspiracy against him was caused by people disagreeing with his policies, as with any politician.

People like to claim that he ever had a chance at becoming prime minister but the truth is he never did. His policies are too divisive his views too unapologetic. He was never good at playing the game, and you have to be good at playing the game, no matter how much contempt for it you may have.

More people voted for Corbyn than Starmer.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk -2 points 3 weeks ago

Meaning only that under our political system that currently exists Corbin was able to piss everyone off, that's not exactly a vote in the favour of Corbin.

I wonder how traditional media is going to blame younger generations this time. Because they can't take responsibility for their own lies.

[–] GoodLuckToFriends@lemmy.today 6 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

The worst part is, the media DID cover it. The big lads may not have, but there were plenty of articles, photos, videos, blogs, and people talking about all of those to have woken up anyone with a conscience. It just turns out that it may be easier than anyone thought to have people turn off their conscience.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 1 points 3 weeks ago

Note that a lot of opinions were out right suppressed esp on regime sanctioned channels

You can't expect a working cuck to pay attention to this shit IMHO it is the job of the media to educate... I know 🤡 but that's theoretically how system should work. Well us and UK media are Zionists so they were able to let this shit run for over a year.

Now that this pmay is over, they are gonna try to adjust for the next stage of the genocide

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 4 points 3 weeks ago

Regime whores doing the bidding of the regime....

Now that the peasant opinion had finally turned despite the endless "Anti-Semitic" shame, the whore looking to save face.

Also, the damage is done, Gaza is destroyed. What are we gonna do now with remaining 2m people who have no where to go and no access to anything?

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

It's not too late for the people who are still alive.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Sure but with that logic it was never too late to stop Hitler either. Great it happened, but the timing was open to improvement.

We're already more than 60.000 confirmed Israeli murders into the most obvious genocide in world history. Even the Nazis did a better job at hiding the Holocaust while it was happening.

[–] match@pawb.social 2 points 3 weeks ago

The best time to stop Hitler is 1932. The second best time is now

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Worth noting that the 60,000 number is confirmed munitions deaths. The number including deaths by disease and famine is much higher.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That's true. Hamas is doing the Palestinians a massive disservice by not publishing this number.

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml -1 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah. My guess it that they're trying to be as conservative as possible to prevent the numbers being dismissed as inflated. Obviously that hasn't worked, but it may well be even worse if they published the full numbers.

It's extremely telling that the lancet estimating a quarter million dead a year ago has been completely memory-holed; even most anti-genocide people dont' know about it.

Never going to forgive him damning the pro-EU lobby with faint praise during the Brexit vote. In his soul he wanted Brexit and has admitted as much in the years since.
