We are, of course, a Community dedicated to all things Harry Potter fanfiction. All genres, ships, and settings are welcome. Please read the rules carefully.

1.) No personal information. Do not share real-life information about yourself, any author, reader, or user of the platform. This includes real names, emails, passwords, etc. Author profiles are allowed.

2.) No hate speech. We do not tolerate any hate speech or witch-hunting directed at a person or group of people. This includes specific authors, specific readers, and people who like specific tropes, characters, or ships. Homophobia, transphobia, sexism, racism, and other derogatory language are not tolerated. Violating this rule will result in an immediate ban.

3.) No personal attacks. No personal attacks or insults at another user, author, or reader. Purposefully inciting arguments by tagging another user or calling them names is prohibited. Threats will not be tolerated. Violating this rule will result in an immediate ban.

4.) No impersonating authors. Pretending to be an author and making posts and/or comments on an author's behalf will not be tolerated.

5.) Utilize spoiler tags. Spoilers only apply to fanfiction at this point in time. Spoiler tags are not required for any official media, including books, movies, games, etc. Surround the content of your spoiler like so: >!spoiler!<. Anything that reveals major parts of a plot (like a twist) should be tagged.

6.) No stealing content. Do not use this subreddit to circumnavigate the rules of other fanfiction communities, archives, or an author's personal will. Sharing fanfiction files against an author's will also violates this rule.

7.) Request Thread vs. What's That Fic? A Request thread should be used when looking for any fic that meets certain criteria. Example: Looking for fics where Cedric doesn't die after the tournament.

What's That Fic? should be used when looking for a certain fanfiction that you just can't remember the name of. Example: I read a fic where Cedric doesn't die after the Tournament and he establishes a safe house for muggleborns during the war. What is it?

8.) No Sexualization of Minors/Non-Consensual Sexual Content. Absolutely no direct links to fanfiction that involves minors in sexual or suggestive situations. Please see Lemmy's policy regarding this issue. Any direct link to such content will be removed. Gratuitous or positive depictions of non-consensual sexual content are also subject to removal.

9.) No bashing. Be respectful of other users' likes and preferences when posting. If a topic is not to your taste, use language that makes it clear it is your opinion while not attacking users. (Remember Rules 2 & 3.) This applies to all posts and comments in the Community. Example: "I don't think Harry and Ginny should have ended up together." is NOT bashing. Example: "You're a moron if you think Harry and Ginny should have ended up together. What kind of idiot actually enjoys those fics?" IS bashing.

10.) No Advertising. No advertising non-fanfics. This includes but is not limited to Discord servers, merchandise, paid applications, paid promotions, etc. Harry Potter fanfiction Communities may be linked as long as the content is not being spammed.

11.) No Politics Do not discuss real-world politics of any former or current country. This includes political beliefs, actions, events, and other similar topics.

12.) Discussion must be fanfiction related. Discussion must be fanfiction related. Any posts that do not discuss Harry Potter fanfiction at its core will be removed. This includes rehashing canon events, discussion of modern politics, and viewpoints of the author.

I was always confused by this. A lot of fics have these so called "trust vaults" set up for Harry with limited money, meaning that he can only access them and has to wait until he is of age to access his main vault.

Is this canon? Did the Potters really have something like this? A 11 year old can access his/her main full vault as long as he/she has the key, right?

Speaking of Gringotts keys, let's say if Harry took his key from Hagrid before year 1 or from the Weasleys afterwards. Would the goblins allow this and let Harry access his full main vault without adult supervision and allow him to do whatever with it's contents?

Or if Dumbledore or the Weasleys refused to give him his key, could he go directly to the goblins and ask for a new one? Would they give him one? What would Dumbledore say if he knew Harry took back his key?

Would he have any legal ground in demanding it back from him or getting the goblins to block him from accessing his vault without adult supervision? And finally, can the ministry intervene in these situations?

Interesting questions!

A lot of fics have these so called "trust vaults" set up for Harry with limited money, meaning that he can only access them and has to wait until he is of age to access his main vault.

Huh, this is new to me.

Is this canon? Did the Potters really have something like this?

I don't recall anything like that in the books. It's possible it was included in a video game or something, but I consider those a "lower tier" of canon than the books.

A 11 year old can access his/her main full vault as long as he/she has the key, right?

That is my understanding, yes.

Would the goblins allow this and let Harry access his full main vault without adult supervision and allow him to do whatever with it's contents?

I assume so. It is Harry's vault and Harry's money, after all.

Or if Dumbledore or the Weasleys refused to give him his key, could he go directly to the goblins and ask for a new one? Would they give him one?

Unless there were some previously established arrangement (which we don't see in the books) between Dumbledore and Gringotts, I don't think Dumbledore could easily get a key to someone else's vault.

Would he have any legal ground in demanding it back from him or getting the goblins to block him from accessing his vault without adult supervision?

Obligatory IANAL, but I think that he would not. As Harry's legal guardians prior to Book 7, the Dursley's might have some legal ground, though I'm not sure if they would be a wise choice to manage Harry's finances...

And finally, can the ministry intervene in these situations?

I suspect that the Goblins would view any ministry intervention quite negatively.

What do you think?
