Summary

Three people died in ICE custody in April, bringing the total deaths under Trump’s current term to at least seven. Victims include Brayan Garzón-Rayo, Nhon Nguc Nguyen, and Marie Ange Blaise, whose case raised questions about denied medical care.

ICE faces criticism over overcrowding, unsanitary conditions, and lack of oversight as detainee numbers near 50,000.

Advocates cite systemic neglect and worsening conditions amid Trump’s aggressive deportation campaign.

Human rights groups filed lawsuits over DHS office closures, and hunger strikes, protests, and investigations continue nationwide as detainees report abuse and deteriorating mental health care.

They are concentrating the camps.

The first AMERICAN concentration camp is being constructed as we speak. Soon we won't need Cecot.

Trump has signed an executive order to build a 30,000 bed detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, and a $249 million contract has already been awarded. It is due to be complete in 2030, but it will open in stages.

For context, the average maximum security prison in America is about 800-1200 people. The largest, in Angola, LA, is about 8300. That means this new detention facility will be almost 4 times larger than our current largest prison, which is already several times larger than average.

Its also going to be on a foreign island, surrounded by a (supposedly) hostile foreign nation, far from the prying eyes of the media or the courts.

We've seen Cecot, with its giant cells packed with 80 prisoners. We've also seen their method of frog-marching their prisoners.

Compare that with Russia's infamous Black Dolphin Prison where prisoners live this way for the rest of their lives:

they are forced to stand and forbidden from resting or sitting on their bunks from the time they awake until bedtime (roughly 16 hours).

They are also moved about in a similar way as Cecot:

Black Dolphin prison officers have a unique form of escorting inmates: prisoners are kept bent over at the waist while a guard holds his handcuffed hands behind his back, higher than his hips. This escort control tactic allows for maximum control while depriving him of a view of his immediate surroundings (preventing him from escaping and/or attacking prison staff)

The MAGA Nazis are very familiar both of these notorious prisons, and it is likely they will be the model for the the new Guantanamo Bay facility.

So who do they intend on putting in there? He is making it crystal clear that whoever is destined for Camp Gitmo will NOT be receiving trials, or anything resembling Due Process.

Our first AMERICAN concentration camp is being constructed as we speak, Google it.

Definitely not the first

But hey, you're preaching to the choir here.

Concentration camps. Call them what they are.

[–] msprout@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I am struggling to get my fellow Americans to understand that in WW2, we built concentration camps for Japanese people and were detaining them in these numbers. Everyone just wistfully calls them "internment camps."

I don't know what the fuck is wrong with this culture but we are just perennially unable to recognize things for what they are. It's like we have this built-in need to be lied to. If the government doesn't do it, we brew up our own homemade lies.

"Concentration camp" evokes the Nazi style death camps. The USA's version of this was/is decidedly less about mass extermination of a race. Still a concentration camp, still repugnant. I think the terminology is loaded and it makes it harder for people to understand. Not to mention the dearth of education we have which certainly isn't helping...

Given that Trump has fired several immigrants judges (hard to get a good number but at least 20 it seems) since the start of his term he actually doesn't care about processing cases as quickly as possible. Cruelty is the point. They're hoping people will "self-deport" out of fear.

This is why Canadians won't cross the border. The US is no longer a safe country to visit. Innocent people being thrown in to concentration camps and shipped off to El Salvadore to die... Thanks, but no thanks. Ima go to France this holiday instead. Nice and safe over there.

I am a natural citizen of Usonia and I fucking gasp every time I hear through the grapevine that someone from a(n) (formerly) allied nation took the risk to travel here. I understand that most don't have much choice, but my home is unrecognizable to me now.

Don't come here, and I am saying this as someone who benefits from Canadian tourism. I have a deep, long-time love and appreciation for the Canadian people and their First Nations — it breaks my heart to even say so, but please, for your own safety, do not come here!

Countries are blacklisting the USA, anyone not cis-het and white are cancelling trips.. I have to give it to Trump, he seemed to know that the best way to expunge all the groups he doesn't want is to make the country dangerous for them. 'Kill and disappear a bunch of them,' he thought, 'and they will choose to leave. Soon they will stop coming. Soon America will be cleansed.'

[–] SpaceShort@feddit.uk 11 points 1 day ago

It's going to be more than that. It's going to be genocide.
