Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy have sat down for a face-to-face talk in the opulent halls of a Vatican basilica to discuss a possible ceasefire, after which the US president accused his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, of not wanting to “stop the war”.

The White House described Trump’s meeting with the Ukrainian leader before Pope Francis’s funeral as “very productive”, while Zelenskyy said on X that the talk with the US president was symbolic and had the “potential to become historic, if we achieve joint results”.

It was the first time that Zelenskyy and Trump had met face to face after a frosty February encounter in the White House where Trump and the US vice-president, JD Vance, berated the Ukrainian leader and accused him of ingratitude for US aid.

Trump is such a fucking idiot. Don't waste your time thinking about this.

I'm an American, and I want my taxes going to Ukraine. This fucking asshole removed those. Fuck him. Fuck. Him.

Yea me too. Maybe it's as he didn't have any cronies to interrupt the discussion so they can keep him on their option.

He's just making it look like he's objective after being cornered into a meeting he didn't really want.

My conspiracy theory: Trump is dying. He no longerer fears the Russian Kompromat, and believes a change of heart to support Ukraine will be better for his legacy.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 33 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Trump is a through and through narcissist, with a touch of anti-social personality disorder. My point, is the only thing he cares about is himself, and what he can get out of a situation. I don't think he gives a crap about a legacy, much less whether people view him positively after he dies.

Wouldn't a narcissist fret a lot about their public image, even what's left of it after their death? I mean, the way this man brags about winning at golf, having every other country "kissing [his] ass" asking for deals after the tariffs, scoring high marks on his ~~intelligence~~ dementia tests, etc, it's quite clear he cares a lot about being seen as a powerful and talented person.

I don't know much about narcissism other than the popular definition so of course I could be completely wrong.

That's how I intend to paint him in history, at least
