I only rarely bring my analog shots in the digital format and was wondering what‘s the best way to go about it.

I'm using DSLR for scanning. It's really good for the 35mm, but for the medium format it's quite tedious. If you already own a DSLR I would recommend to explore that direction. If you don't own one, you should check local classified ads for a scanner.

A few years back I scanned a whole pile of photos from my childhood (I'm from 1974). My method was to scan the original negatives wherever possible on a flatbed scanner. Only scanning the actual prints where the negatives were lost or badly damaged. (Actually I still scanned those negatives just so I had them incase I ever wanted to try and digitally repair any scratches etc, either manually or via some automated /AI tool in the future.)

The lab that develops my film uses a professional scanner to scan my negatives and send the digital files directly to me. They have multiple quality options up to 6048 x 4011.
