Turns out someone else likes dim sims.

She's so sneaky and brazen but never pushes the limit.

She ignored the wine thankfully that is off limits.

It's been a week. Any question I had about needing music making in my life is answered.

That’d make a great prank, put it next to the bed of someone sleeping and see their reaction when they wake up.

Dammit, I just bought one

Yes please. Does it eat yukkas?

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago

I'm pretty sure if it ate yukkas it would be worth a lot more. It would make a great business.

DAE think LinkedIn is kinda stupid? My sister has networked with people through there and had job offers as a result. You do have to sell yourself when you go for a job and LinkedIn is like a digital CV. However, it just seems like a glorified form of social media where people are obsessed with climbing the corporate ladder and flaunting themselves. The posts, man, the posts. Also the company that verifies users' identities, Persona, are operating from a dodgy part of SF and are known for ghosting applicants late into the recruitment phase.

::: spoiler rant I used to know a guy who I let have so much power over me. Now I feel sorry for him, because his life for the past few years has been climbing the corporate ladder by working unpaid overtime and sucking up to people in order to pay his mortgage. Yes, you've got to work hard and kiss some asses along the way, but it shouldn't have to be that way. I realise that him having power over me allowed him to be just like how school bullies might have their parents bullying them, and then they do the same to other kids.

DAE?? You would struggle to find someone who disagrees with this take.

I use it as a basic digital CV and to contact people in the industry if I don't have any other way of approaching them. The social media stuff i pretty much ignore.

[–] dumblederp@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

LinkedIn is trash IMO. I'd rather eat out of dumpsters than whore myself on there.

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yep!

I'd rather whore myself out on OF and make some proper cash than have anything to do with LinkedIn and the corporate ladder

Inspired by the aldi camping sale this weekend I was looking up gear because I want to get a basic camping setup (ex had all the gear when we got together and I left it all with him). Aldi was a good start but then I made the mistake of looking on Facebook marketplace and now my internet experience is just tents all the way down....

So I woke up at like 1pm. One beer and two glasses of prosecco last night and I was out like a light.

I feel good though today, not depressed or anything. I could still sleep, but I'm having a coffee and cuddle with Mickey :) all is well.

On another note, I am so proud of my partner: his first week at his new job went really well! And he discovered that the building his new work is in, his OLD workplace has moved to as well! So he has reconnected with a couple of people from the call centre he used to manage! They're stoked that they can hang out with my partner during lunch! I'm stoned for him and them!

I made the dal makhani after 7 hours of soaking and an hour of boiling the pulses. Alas, it didn't really turn out like I expected - granted, it's not a dish I grew up with or ate enough of to be really familiar with. Neither do i have much experience with these ingredients. Bought the wrong kind of urad dal (no skin) and followed recipes with too high a ratio of urad dal:kidney beans to my tastes. The end result was a bit too mushy and bland for my liking although it was no fault of the cashew cream, which I can report to @dumblederp worked well despite all the other problems. It reduced the slimy texture of urad dal and gave it a lovely creamy mouthfeel.

Ended up adding way more spices and eating it with copious amounts of lime pickle. Would try cashew cream again but need to change a few things if I try this dish again.

Not particularly inspiring pics:

Kidney beans I can use in other dishes, but man I have a lot of urad dal to go through.

I’m not too familiar with what sort of grains are needed for what but I heard some kind of dal is used for dosa and idlis? Some recipes use urad dal and they seem to use dehusked.

Great to hear about the cashew cream. Most of my "dal" is based of 1kg dry pulces and 150g spice mix. Sometimes add veggies, sometimes add chicken/stock.

A diced apple or pear and some microwave'd pappadums can zhoozjh it up a bit.

Also, the Instant Pot absolutely smashes out the dry pulces for no fuss cooking.

The litter of cats have all been fed. I've doubled the amount of dry food for the strays, so now they have 2 fairly large containers.

My personal fluffball has had her afternoon treats.

Time for some zonk and hoping the crack head next door doesn't yell and scream all day and night.

Edit: cops were just at her house for some reason. Maybe that'll keep her quiet for a day.

Flower patch update:

Kinda worked out better than I thought it would. Pretty much hands off, only taken out 1 weed.. did it all by itself.

Crossing the road at Bourke Street Mall:

  • A man in an Australian flag shirt holding an Israeli flag shouts at the crowd waiting for the tram
  • Magician busker asks people to stop to watch him perform so he can go home and sleep
  • Homeless man shouts UGLY BITCH at no one in particular
  • Violinist busker plays Ludovico Einaudi. He is the only one getting any attention.

And that’s on top of all the usual leaflets people

It never gets boring.

My favorite there was a good few years back - skinny longhaired teenager playing New York State of Mind on transparent vinyl bagpipes. And he did a stompin good job of it too.

I'm going on an adventure to Footscray. Haven't been for years. I hope I don't get killed. πŸ’€

[–] tone212_@aussie.zone 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It’s changed a lot, the signs of gentrification all over but the old Footscray is still very much there. It’s a unique place.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

it's so run down it's scary and sad

[–] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Used to go there a bit when I was a teen (over 30 years ago). It was very Asian and cool back then, not a worrying place to be. Some of those shops were grouse, not at all like the plastic-filled $2 shops of now, with exotic and niche goods. It was the only place you could get certain things in the west at the time. The only time I went there recently with the kids we were on the tram that goes through there and a messed up guy (drugs) got on and asked every person on the tram for money while intermittently ranting. Other people got on and off the tram who were of a similar disposition. Kids were not impressed. He then got off the tram at an intersection and I had to distract the kids from looking out the window because he weaved over to a light pole, pulled out his Richard in broad daylight and started peeing on it.

[–] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

Yeah it somehow feels more gentrified and less safe now. Now head there for Cheaper by Miles. And there's a slow food market in west Footscray once a month. But that's about it https://www.slowfoodmelbourne.com.au/events/slofo-wefo-farmers-market/

Daylight? Shouldn't be a problem.

Though now that Olympic doughnuts has closed, why would you want to go there?

After yesterday's really lovely day I feel energized today (rare for a sat am, usually I sleep in and feel groggy and need the day off to recover from the week). Already got on top of a few long delayed chores including washing some woollen things sitting around for months. I have nowhere to dry clothes outdoors and no direct light indoors, hopefully they'll dry well enough...

Gonna try doing my last big cook up for a while - making dal makhani for the first time later today (with butter but no cream - cashew cream instead), use up those Jerusalem artichokes, and do a nice green side dish, maybe stir fried greens. Hmm maybe the Viet groceries on Vic st have something interesting. Craving amaranth...
