What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post as opposed to arguing.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

Because oppessing people is okay as long as you're the one doing it for totally good reasons! Absolute power TOTALLY won't corrupt you! Even funnier how a ton of Hexbear tankies showed up to that thread to downvote bomb everyone, just like they're known for doing. Haven't changed one bit in the past year or so!

Social liberalism, social democracy, market socialism. State owned enterprises to protect the interest of the citizens.

Those all have their place.

Authoritarian tankies? Their place is the garbage bin

My country Belgium has the world record longest period without a government because they actually had to compromise with eachother instead of having eachother killed.

This time they had to force it through, spent 40 hours in the parlement to finally come to an agreement.

That's one of the major "necessities" on the road to Communism that I just can't find myself getting behind...

The whole "dictatorship of the proletariat."

The one "philosophy" I've come to find that is more correct more often than others is "people really fucking suck. A LOT of people really fucking suck. People in positions of power or drawn to positions of power REALLY fucking suck."

I don't care who runs your dictatorship, it's going to be abused and atrocities are going to happen. I don't know how you stop capitalists from corrupting every system you try to implement though which is what they feel that dictatorship is needed for... :/

I always ascribed it to willfully misinterpreted theory. That is, "dictatorship of the proletariat" actually meaning "the proletariat makes the rules, not the capitalists", as opposed to the M-L "we should have an authoritarian, autocratic state that's a good thing for... reasons... And oppress people that we don't like under the guise of being anticapitalist".

Then again, I'm an anarchist and I've seen unironic suggestions from M-Ls to put us in "reservations" as a "solution" to our lack of willingness to accept authoritarian rule. So, maybe I have a more generous interpretation than it deserves.

This is true. It basically means democracy without bourgeois interference

Everyone knows that the road to freeing the masses is giving a relative few the power to prohibit tyranny and crush oppression.

“Hey, modern Russia is a capitalist state, also bigots. We’re going to start oppressing them now (actually have been).”

No no no we like those capitalists for reasons which I am super offended if you want to explore

I am new around here. Is Hexbear some site that is usually on its own and will randomly federate every now and then?

[–] Famko@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hexbear is a lemmy instance whose website link was put on auction recently, so they weren't able to interact with anyone else until they recently got their website back.

Most instances aren't federated with hexbear for obvious reasons, but some are so that's why you sometimes see them in the comment sections of posts.

do you know how much they ended up paying for it? I never saw a followup

[–] Famko@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

According to the auction site (https://www.sav.com/auctions/details/7073489/hexbear.net), they ended up paying 2365 dollars for it.
