Had a nap after my whinge (thank you for your kind words πŸ’œπŸ’œ), then went to Savers and got two shirts for partner's new job, and two pairs of jeans for myself for under $50 in total.

Then got a massive haul of groceries from Aldi. I transferred $120 to my paying card but it only cost ~$50 all up for all of it. Stuck in the expensive Colesworth mind lol

Edit: oh and I applied for a few shelters as a volunteer, hopefully I can get a place at one of them as it's a requirement to have placement for the Cert IV in Vet Nursing 🀞🏼🀞🏼🀞🏼

I want to work, and yet no one gets back to me after my last round of applications.

I need a freakin job so I can afford driving lessons so I can actually get a job as an animal attendant. Oh, but I need a minimum of 2 years experience to do basic sandwich making or retail ffs.

I'm almost at the point of selling my soul back to call centre work, but thought of doing that again is making me fucking sick - tied to a desk and phone, unable to leave it, power-tripping team leaders and abusive, masturbating customers. UGH! I don't think my mental health could take it.

[–] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 9 points 1 week ago

You have more than 2 years experience - this requirement is basically about getting to work on time on all scheduled days. Industry irrelevant.

[–] dumblederp@aussie.zone 8 points 1 week ago

We'll lie for you as your old bosses.

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 8 points 1 week ago

masturbating customers

Jeez.

I should really find a new hobby

You have 5 years experience.

You have ALWAYS had 5 years experience.

The patch is on and now my arm is itchy. Maybe I'll put it on my leg next time where there's a bit more meat. Or my arse cheek πŸ˜‚

[–] dumblederp@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago (9 children)

Sometimes I'd spank the patch a little during cravings, it'll increase blood flow to the area (more nic absorbed) and it gives you something to do with your hands. The itch is normal.

A suicidal jam jar leapt out of the pantry to its doom on the tiles. Red sticky jammy glass everywhere. Great fun to clean up.

I have committed to organising the lasers for the sixteenth birthday party. Synthwave is the brief.

Assignments due in 10, 14, 16, 20 and 21 days. I will not procrastinate anymore. I feel like I've almost left the 10 days one too late. Time to break down each into steps and give meself some faux deadlines. I can do this.

I'm actually keen for an early night. Hang out with fluffball and read for a while.

Goodnight all ❀️

Edit: I will not be working hard. I have learned my lesson. I will be enthusiastic and do slightly more then expected. There is no meritocracy in corporate.

Working hard is a terrible idea that leads to burn out and disappointment.

The only way to make more money most of the time is to leave and go elsewhere.

So, Peter Khalil dropped in today.

I went to the door expecting to have to shoo away a salesperson, and was so surprised that I couldn’t think of any good questions to ask at the time. I did say I wouldn’t be voting for Peter Dutton, though

[–] Nath@aussie.zone 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

On paper, Wills is a blue-ribbon Labor seat - Bob Hawke's old seat.
But a third of voters there went Green in 2022. He should be getting out and meeting people/listening to them. They can't take this seat for granted any more.

He did seem a little nervous that I might vote for the greens, lol

For me, just over three hours left of lentish. I may have some intoxicated morning rants hitting around eleven am tomorrow. Be forewarned.

Edit: of the various vices I gave up over the last few weeks/months I think getting off reddit had the biggest impact, I'm looking to keep that up. Feels like it brings more negativity to my life than any traditional intoxicant.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago

Well done πŸ‘

I've been putting off getting my eyes checked for YEARS. I haven't had an exam since I was in primary school. I've felt that I've needed glasses for a long time but haven't wanted to pull the trigger because... Idk. There's no going back once I officially know I need glasses or something? Anyway, I'm booked in for tomorrow morning, time to find out how cooked I am πŸ€“

[–] dumblederp@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago

The test/prescription is paid for by medicare, you don't owe the company a purchase of a pair of glasses, they'll try. If you're only on a weak prescription, you can order a simple pair of spectacles on Zenni for very cheap.

The change of seasons has well and truly finally hit. Feeling a bit of a cold-ish headache from not adjusting to the temp difference properly and returning to a whole day of desktop work after ages... Gonna buy some soup, chug hot herbal tea, and have an early night. This will be my last long work week before I throw myself at uni hardcore.

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 8 points 1 week ago (4 children)

So after saying this work laptop sucks, I could buy it off work for $100 because the SSD is starting to fail. Switch it out for a new one and it would be right as rain again. It might be heavy and power hungry, but a deal's a deal

I've taken the next step in reducing Microsoft's presence in my life: I've just notified my mother that I'm cancelling my subscription at the next renewal and she will be back on the free plan.

It is not much of a sacrifice as I still have full access to all the programs through both work and uni, but I won't be paying them (which was primarily for my cloud storage). I might look at LibreOffice at some point, but the main thing I use is a complicated spreadsheet for my budget and it is highly likely something will break if I try it in a different program.

[–] Nath@aussie.zone 1 points 6 days ago

Take a look at Softmaker Office. It's not free, but it's loads cheaper than Microsoft. Home version is $50/year or $5/month. They have a free trial so you can have a play with it and see whether it'll break your spreadsheet.

I've only used it a little (I have MS Office through work stuff), but I found it to be very usable.

Wide awake at a quarter to five. Loving this cool weather, the heavy doona is so comforting.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 7 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I need to move back to the heavy doona, I've still got my light summer doona on the bed and needed the electric blanket last night.

As a bonus that means I will get to use one of my new (to me) fancy patterned flat sheets I was given, which will match the doona covers for the heavy doona perfectly. I have king sized wool doonas for winter & have moved to folding them between two sheets instead of using an actual cover, which is easier to change (especially because the covers have shrunk or something and don't fit well). I like the patterns on my covers so I have cut and hemmed them to be the flat sheet on top and the two patterned sheets I was given will match them really well as the folded over top sheet.

I've also moved to having flat sheets on the bed instead of fitted. I was getting frustrated with fitted sheets that had been cut without enough fabric on the sides and with dodgy elastic, so I was planning on making fitted sheets from the flats, but I have found that just using them as is has been working fine too so I think I'll just stick with that.

I seem to have been cursed by smoke detectors. There is some humour in this one seemly being able to read a calendar.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago

later dudes, 😘

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Vehicle finances are worked out and I have a short list of vehicles to look at on Wednesday. Hopefully number 1 on my list will be ok (and still available) and I don't have to keep looking. I don't really enjoy looking at cars. Don't tell the salesmen, but I'll probably pay more just so I can get it over and done with.

The one I am looking at is just out of warranty period and is sold through a Ford dealership that offers a three year mechanical warranty on the used cars. Would it make sense for me to skip the vehicle inspection in this case?

Does anyone know of an animal rescue or shelter that takes strays?

The ones I've tried just say to contact the council and that's not going to lead to a positive outcome.

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Elite cat rescue does strays, but are presently full.
