I'm American and while I deplore how we are treating our allies, I absolutely am looking forward to a stronger more independent Europe. America has been the big bully for far too long. It's time for other Western countries to become just as powerful and influential.

And for Americans who decide to immigrate to another country it is great to have multiple options that align more with their values they can seek shelter in and feel safe. So win win.

I think Europe unifying over this awful situation is the best response to hope for, but I will never believe that fractured alliances improve anyone's situation and so I struggle with "stronger"... Stronger in relation to what? I'd much rather that the unity between the US and EU remained strong and Europe also fortified it's defenses over this situation we are currently in, that is truly stronger.

Stronger, maybe stronger than if it didn't respond at all, sure. Certainly weaker than if it could continue to have the US as an ally while making these changes. And in my opinion the US also is weaker now than it was before losing the confidence in the alliance of the EU, let alone the weakness all over the US because it is being actively attacked by it's own leader.

Likely stronger in the sense of being less at the mercy of one single powerful country. Sort of like the fediverse and it being ideal for multiple instances over one main centralized instance who's collapse or sudden policy changes can be incredibly disruptive. More distributed power over the long run will make alliances more resilient to unforeseen changes that occur.

The fact this YouTube shows the problem. YouTube is Google and an American tech monopoly. An independent Europe can't be dependent on the US.
