WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Vice President JD Vance said that he’s joining his wife on a Friday trip to Greenland, suggesting in an online video that global security is at stake.

“We’re going to check out how things are going there,” Vance said in a video shared Tuesday. “Speaking for President Trump, we want to reinvigorate the security of the people of Greenland because we think it’s important to protecting the security of the entire world.”

I don't even understand why they're allowed in the country.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 17 points 6 days ago (1 children)

If they aren't, then it's best to turn them away at the Greenlandic airport for maximum inconvenience.

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago

Detain them!

[–] pleasegoaway@lemm.ee 9 points 5 days ago

There is a US military base in Greenland.

I hope Greenland refuses to let them off the base.

[–] ProfHillbilly@lemmy.world 18 points 5 days ago

Why can't Greenland officials meet them at the airport, detain while going through their social media , and then put them back on the plane and tell them to not come back? I think that would be fair.

The only thing Greenland is in danger from, is the US.

[–] AJ1@lemmy.ca 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

You don't need, that comma.

But I'd like to point out that this isn't a criticism of, your comment. Just, the punctuation. I'm, sorry. And I will now take, my downvotes. See you, tomorrow.

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 11 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I'm not offended. I use way more commas than, I should, but, in this case, it was meant to be, a pause for, emphasis, which I thought, was valid.

No down vote from the perpetrator.

[–] cyberslask@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Correct punctuation for dramatic pause is … ellipsis.

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

But I didn't want the pause that long.

[–] weirdboy@lemm.ee 1 points 5 days ago

Did you try..two periods instead of three?

[–] pleasegoaway@lemm.ee 2 points 5 days ago

“It’d be a real shame if you were to find yourself in danger, Greenland”

why do I have a feeling they are going to provoke/fake some kind of incident that would "justify" an attempt at US military "intervention"

[–] FilthyHookerSpit@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

tinfoils maybe Usha thinks "they'll" kill her in Greenland to start a war between the US and Greenland so she's taking her husband as insurance that won't happen.

Untinfoils most likely she knows they're hated and doesn't want to face the unwantedness/hostility/embarassment of going where she's unwanted.

Vance Def gives me family killer vibes

Seduce him with couches. Danish design is pretty raunchy.

[–] Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 17 points 6 days ago (1 children)

On their way back, they get detained by ICE

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 5 points 6 days ago

Please please let this happen...it would be the funniest thing ever!

I hope they get a cavity search too!

[–] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I hope they will freeze to death.

Hoping for the plane to go down in the sea.

[–] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Brutally attacked and shredded to pieces by a walrus.

[–] MetalMachine@feddit.nl 2 points 5 days ago

That's so aggressive, but not new. Let's not forget the US is an imperial power who has constantly deposed and invaded other countries.

[–] bingBingBongBong@lemm.ee 2 points 5 days ago

Hope he has a bad time

[–] Jumpingspiderman@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Stake both of them out on an ice flo for the polar bears.

[–] ABetterTomorrow@lemm.ee 0 points 6 days ago

I bet they’re going to get told to turn the plain around.

[–] fox2263@lemmy.world 185 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Could Greenland just turn them away?

[–] match@pawb.social 145 points 1 week ago (7 children)

Detain them indefinitely instead.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemm.ee 5 points 6 days ago

Nah, that would give the idiot an easy excuse to invade.

Greenland should absolutely deny these invaders entry.

I hope Greenlanders chase him away like Vermonters did. Let him know he can't go anywhere without people making it known how much they don't want a little sycophantic dweeb like him around.
