JFC… looks like Reddit is now only good for old Tech questions.
News and Discussions about Reddit
Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.
Yep. I am done with Reddit too. Just deleted my account after this bullshit.
Well... that's just going to be most American sites going forward. That's why ultimately platforms like Lemmy are so important. What a lot of people here in the States don't realize is that this is a war on information.
Sub name checks out
I've gotten permabans on multiple subs and also overall bans from reddit admin itself. Various reasons like pro-luigi comments, anti-trump comments, anti-israeli comments, pro-ukraine comments. Reddit is a propaganda platform now.
I am so close to deleting Reddit too, among all other American services I’ve been canceling since the beginning of the new year.
Meanwhile PoliticalCompassMemes and the 4chan subreddit stays up
When it comes to controversial subs, the general rule is if you have really dedicated mods who are super careful to never break a rule themselves you can generally keep it up.
Those mods not breaking any rules individually is important because otherwise the admins will invoke their backup plan for dealing with a sub they don't like but isn't breaking any rules - keeping the mods under a microscope and looking for any excuse to ban them and immediately ban the sub for being unmoderated, refuse to give it to new mods, and ban any replacement sub for recreating a banned sub.
They could just ban the sub because they don't like it, but that kind of seeming capriciousness tends to get a bad reaction from the userbase, which is why they look for an excuse to justify the ban.
I've seen a lot of awful subreddits over time but PoliticalCompassMemes was the first subreddit I ran into that made me feel like I was actually staring into the start of the pipeline. The way it was masquerading as a "funny all inclusive political humour sub" at the time was nauseating and it's only gotten worse since.
Ironic - Palpatine
To be fair, there's about a fifty-fifty chance that a subreddit, or lemmy community for that matter, called "supressed news" is going to be filled loonies, and those guys could spend all day masturbating to the though of violently dismantling the power of the World Economic Forum.
dismantling the power of the World Economic Forum.
that's drumpf's job
Welcome refugees, the waters warm and we've got the kettle on for a cuppa
Finally deleted my account there just now. Place is so far removed from the principles it was founded on. Guess I'll be here a lot more... but hopefully spending less time doom scrolling in general.
Dont mind me just slowly transitioning over to Lemmy
I regressed back to Reddit for a bit. I'm back for good after I found out they're also suppressing anti consumption movements.
Reddit can keep all the NPCs.
I hope lemmy becomes large enough to support niche communities, but never coddles nazis like reddit does.
I fear that the Nazis will come first, but am hopeful they keep to their corner.
The great part about federation is that there isn't a central control, and so they can in fact have their own instances, and either your instance can block their instance or you as a user can block their instance and you never have to see them or deal with them.
So far, most instances are hostile to nazis because they saw what reddit became. I hope that persists. nazis should not be welcome here like they are on reddit.
Lemmy is what reddit used to be.
I got myself permabanned for saying even sharks don’t like Russians on a story about a shark attack. On that website since 2008, guess it was a good push in the right direction, it’s been getting shittier.
They have really unleashed the hounds recently it seems. I wonder how long before they start banning NSFW content.
They floated the idea of charging for access to certain subs a while back. They're gonna paywall the porn.
After 12 years and over 900K Karma, I got permanently banned for repeating an opinion that I've posted many times over the past decade. Then Trump gets elected, and the exact same opinion gets me a permaban.
Now I'm hearing that they are banning people for UPVOTES! I wondered why Reddit had decided to throw in with the Nazis, and I this week I see in the news that Ohanion wants to buy TikTok. The new owner of TikTok will be personally chosen by HitlerPig, so Zuckerfuck has been kissing up, and now Ohanion wants in on it. HitlerPig will award it to whomever kisses his ass and pays him the most.
Same here. Got Banned from r/WorldNews for talking about Luigi when that CEO incident happened. Perma-banned a day later.
14 year old account for me. Mod of a million plus sub. 700k karma. Built fucking subreddits into real communities. Banned over a joke I made for a decade. Reddit is dying and we now have a new federated home.
Which community? I'll spend my unbanned account posting that you're over here on Lemmy.
I'm here because I replied to "let's not give them an inch" with "let's give them 9mm" and was permanently banned from politics, no recourse. That's the most left leaning sub on the website.
When they took API access away I was pissed but I stayed. But taking away my free speech, seriously? They can go fuck themselves.
Reddit doesn't want users participating in the site. They want eyes looking at ads and that's it. Look, don't touch. We've got bots for touching.
Lurkers are more lucrative than posters.
I’m glad Lemmy is here as an alternative to Reddit censorship. It really is rich versus poor in the U.S. instead of the right versus left that media propaganda tells us.
