The master of timing has done it again - stepping down while most of the cookers are playing referendum politics. I am in awe. I wonder who the cookers will protest about from now on. Not that reality features in their rhetoric.

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They'll protest the Yes campaign.

Then if the No vote wins, they'll be celebrating white pride.

[–] TinyBreak@aussie.zone 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (7 children)

the yes isnt gonna win. It should. But I'd bet a significant sum of money it wont. The federal governments entirely failed to rise to the challenge and let potato head kill the thing before it was born. I'd say Albo should resign, but the alternative is the aforementioned potato head.

EDIT: The yes vote I mean. No is clearly gonna win.

He really should have announced it in his North Face jacket and starting with "at 11.59 pm today..." just for old times sake

[–] melbourne_wanderer@aussie.zone 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

haaa I was in a meeting with a bunch of people at 50 Lonsdale when news trickled in. That was fun! Meeting effectively abandoned, watched the announcement instead.

Okay, I am doing well at work. People are impressed I've jumped on inbound and doing outbounds within the first week and a bit. I'm good at it, and have much more to learn.

I'm very tired, but a weekly paycycle is such a blessing; as opposed to the curse of a monthly paycycle lol

[–] landsharkkidd@aussie.zone 6 points 1 year ago

Meanwhile I'm over here grumbling with my monthly pay cycle...

The milk study I am on ends tomorrow, which means I am now going to have to start paying for my own milk again. Back to the cheapest long life milk available again.

VICTORY, MY FRIENDS!!! I have painstakingly upgraded this old phone to stock OS Android 10 (having to manually incrementally update from certain versions to another), upgraded everything and FLASHED A NEW ROM! Lineage 20 running Android 13! And bonus, thanks to the angels at XDA I have got root back on AND can still use my bank app and Google Wallet and have system wide ad blocking.

I will have to spend a decent amount of time later this week configuring the launcher and display etc. My only one stupid mistake was forgetting to use whatsapp's own service to backup messages to the cloud before doing all this; it apparently didn't detect wifi and hasn't done an automatic backup since the 22nd - and ye olde titanium backup can't restore data given that the app was running off such an ancient OS.

It all sounds silly but it really is a point of extreme and irrational inertia/avoidance updating things that substantially change the UI/UX of my phone (worse still changing the phone itself). This REALLY feels like dusting out the cobwebs and making a fresh start! :)

If I can get my banking and national login apps from my home country onto this phone off my iPhone (because that's the only thing it worked on), I'll be singing. e: banking might be a go, although again I stupidly should've disabled the digital token before all this, I'll have to sort it out in person in a few weeks. but national login is absolutely airtight, I might need to use a burner phone for the rare time I need that login thing. think mygov but on 30593095039403493094 steroids - I hate it, tbh, way too much info in one place.

And just like that literally overnight a Watsonia appeared.

That is a few weeks early.

It waited until after the wedding, so it wouldn't get picked and used in the floral arrangements ...

Got to learn who had the most based and cooked political views in the work chat today.

The most based person tuned into 3AW, just to listen to the Boomer Outrage.

[–] Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone 9 points 1 year ago

Resignations aplenty… Meanwhile I am still eating Doritos like they’re going out of fashion. sigh I’d like a rewind of this month, but c’est la vie. At least we have sunshine, so that’s something.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I catch myself wishing I was rich… and then realise what I hope to gain from that is so basic

I just want freedom. I'd love to see the world before I die. Never got to the chance to travel when I was younger.

But gotta climb the corporate ladder and buy a house. Fucking sucks.

Dear new premier, legal weed please. The fact it's illegal is basically a formality at this point. Give the cops something else to spend their $4.13 billion funding on.

[–] landsharkkidd@aussie.zone 8 points 1 year ago

So my ex-stepdad when I knew him was a DJ, and he now apparently streams his DJ stuff on Twitch. Anyways, so person A I've been looking after asked a question about this DJ we need to email and he said the same name as my ex-stepdad and I had a bit of an anxiety attack at work (but was secret about it).

God I hate PTSD.

Realised I don’t really struggle with writing or art. I struggle with perfectionism, lack of energy, and attention.

Also the idea of sharing it (which is what initially made me want to create?) is really causing me to lock up.

Maybe I’ll just stop trying to create for others, retreat back to doing random landscapes and pictures of my cat.

I would love to see them. I'm not an artist but I love crafts. I can appreciate how much effort people put in even if it's not perfect.

Having to feed a hungry girl extra in the night. Come on bickies.

The black cat was outside this morning and has taken to mournfully meowing at me. I need to stop talking back to him or he might try to invite himself in. And he and Melbcat really don’t get along.

The spinach is barely starting to grow the buds of second leaves and all the carrot tops are coming up

Edit: Oops. Intruder spotted. Big hisses

I am going to bite my tongue today.

We are all going to have an excellent Tuesday.

[–] fullkitwanker@aussie.zone 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Good morning to everyone except those who sit on the aisle seats in a packed tram. Also no good morning to door huggers

[–] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 7 points 1 year ago

So many empty seats, so many haemorrhoids ... I got yelled at on my bike by a millennial (or younger) for not going fast enough to suit them. I prefer not to be t-boned by a forklift when passing a building site, so was going 25km (+/- 1 kph) which is as fast as my electric bike will do (legally).

Have a meeting today about possibly taking another position in my workplace, but I think it may come with a pay cut... As much as I want out of what I'm doing now, I really can't afford it, might have to put my big boy pants on and try and negotiate.

[–] Nath@aussie.zone 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

We took the boys to the Barbie movie today. It was hilarious! You probably need to have grown up with Barbie in your house to get some of the references. Our kids have not, I'm sad to say - so they missed a lot. All the Patriarchy stuff would have gone right over their heads, also. Hopefully, that word is now in their lexicons though.

They claim it was a good movie, so it obviously still worked at their level. My wife and I had a blast laughing at it though. Great family fun.

I am starting to suspect that Ted Cat has not been separated from his balls. He is stinky ( male cat type stinky ) and his little scrotum hasn't shrunk like I thought it would. Thankfully he is not spraying. I checked his papers again and it says desexed but that might be a lie. I will give it another week and then it's off to Lort Smith to get tranks so I can handle and transport him and see what is going on.
