Perez is really on a roll here, what a shit show the last two races. Marko was surprisingly tame about the race, not sure I trust that.

I don't see him or Sargeant in a F1 car in 2024, at least they shouldn't be with the amount of talent that is available coughLawsoncough

Forgot to upload the second decision

[–] strix@slrpnk.net 26 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Indeed. Also, that collision was totally stupid and avoidable. Then the time serving of the penalty after the car was already retired - they really made a laughingstock out of themselves.

[–] hillbicks@feddit.de 12 points 1 year ago

Well, sending him out again made sense from a team perspective. But it is not really sportsmanship like behavior, that is for sure.

Reminded me of the team orders in 2021 DTM finale. Sure you can order the first three drivers to slow down because that is the only way to win the championship, but nobody's going to respect you for it.

Agree. We won't see Sargeant in F1 next year and who knows if/where Perez will find a seat.

It's worse for Perez than Sergeant because at least Sergeant is new and a rookie makes mistakes. But Perez has years experience and the best car on the grid yet can't do better than midfield mostly.

Taking out Magnusson yesterday was a really stupid move, there was no way he was making it through.

I think Marko must be laughing at everyone who criticised him because Perez is kind of proving him right. Not about being "south American" but about saying he struggles to focus because his emotions sometimes are stronger than his rational mind.

How else do you explain that move on Magnusson? He let his emotions get away with him, allowing himself to be impatient and stressed and make a dumb choice

Ah yes, choosing Lawson over Perez sounds like a decision any competent Team CEO would make.. not.

Why? It's risky, but so what? Max can win both championships on his own in that car.

[–] hillbicks@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago

Never said Lawson should replace perez.....

[–] narc0tic_bird@lemm.ee 20 points 1 year ago (2 children)

If his form doesn't drastically improve soon, I can see him being paid out by Red Bull and fired. Or maybe swapped around with one of the Alpha Tauri drivers.

Right now Red Bull is fine and is already constructor's champion. But if and when a team emerges second consistently (McLaren looks like they are) Max can't reliably win the constructor's trophy on his own, even if he'd get 1st and fastest lap every race.

It's also a bit sad to see such a great car go to waste because it's driven by a "mediocre" driver.

Give Yuki 1 year to prove himself. Very likely is better than Perez, fixes their Lawson problem too

And he would burn under the pressure like every other wean put into the red Bull too soon. No one since max and Daniel have been able to handle it other than a seasoned driver like Perez who is inconsistent but pulls bright spots from it. Put Lawson in there and he’ll crumble like Albon and Gasly both did

[–] bernieecclestoned@sh.itjust.works -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If he's good enough, he's good enough. Only one way to find out.

Perez is cooked.

[–] JJROKCZ@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Perez had more wins this year then most men accomplish in their lives, calling him cooked is ridiculous. He’s certainly not meeting expectations right now though

[–] bernieecclestoned@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Today was a RB career ending drive. I bet he's not in the car next season.

[–] woelkchen@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Helmut Marko does not trust Liam, though. He finished ahead of Yuki again and still has no 2024 seat.

[–] bernieecclestoned@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Not in AT...sticking a young talent straight in the top team is very RB though. Albon, Gasly etc.

[–] BURN@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think they’ve learned from Albon and Gasly. It’s probably why Perez got the seat over an inexperienced rookie.

[–] bernieecclestoned@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's not really working out though. Checo looks done in.

He is a very good driver, but I think the team is done with him, his morale must be so low. Especially when Helmut opens his gob.

[–] evanuggetpi@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The only move I can see is Norris to RB.

[–] bernieecclestoned@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Charles would be my choice, the on track action would be great.

Dominant teams are easier to handle if there's some competition. Merc with Rosberg was much more fun than Bottas getting spanked every race

[–] evanuggetpi@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

Indeed. I know RB have tried a few times in the past to lure Norris away and he would do a good job. Charles has probably has enough of Ferrari too. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Either one would be a big upgrade on Perez.

[–] sheogorath@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Ricciardo can be a good second driver if he gets his ego sorted out. His driving style is similar to Max and he previously stated that he uses Max's setup as a baseline for his setup because he has more of a by the feeling kind of approach to make a setup of the car.

[–] reddit_sux@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Would this mean Ric in AT and Lawson in RB for 2024.

[–] Microw@lemm.ee 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

That would be so stupid that it fits Marko. You cant put a rookie next to Max, that is doomed to fail and cost the team even more.

[–] reddit_sux@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You put anyone next to Max he is bound to fail.

[–] evanuggetpi@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 year ago
[–] sheogorath@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The only driver who went well against Max in the same team is Ricciardo.

[–] Microw@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago

Well that was when Max was younger so that could be a factor

That Max picture with the blasses is exceptionally smug btw

[–] Redredme@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I hope so. Or the other way around, I don't care.

[–] reddit_sux@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

As far as we know Ric is in AT.

[–] simonky16@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They're all signed to the red bull company, not the teams anyways, which is why they can be swapped around so easily. DR could (technically) drive for RB without a problem.

Once Max wraps up the championship they could stick DR and Lawson in at RB to duke it out for the drive and have Max watch. Perez and Yuki can be the B team.

[–] hal_5700X@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Man, he's having a bad day.

[–] genuineparts@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago

If he drove a Williams or Alpine, I'd agree, bad day. Perez is driving for a Top Team, that was career suicide

[–] xooolooov@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Idk what happened to him. Seems like he isnt in good mental state
