I am glad that the rest of the world is finally finding out just how insane Indian politics is. There's a lot of fearmongering, grandstanding, and really stupid political stances going on in India, along with rampant human rights abuses.

You think Republicans in the US are insane? They've got nothing on what goes on in India.

[–] ConditionOverload@lemmy.world 42 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Most Indians they have emigrated out of that shithole country will never talk about this kind of thing or any of the actual lawlessness, level of corruption, bigotry, and religious intense that happens in India.

I'm an Indian who's moved to the US and I'm pretty pissed off that the US openly welcomed Modi after the was banned for what he did in the riots in the early 2000s.

Hopefully the world gets to know the real India.

Let’s not give republicans stretch goals ok

I am an Indian and I request you to ignore the trash talk these insignificant politicians do on a "live debate shows" to get views for news channels. These notorious news channels pays "politicians" to come to their show to fight, get insulted, speak gibberish and anything that can be done to increase viewership.

Update: The person asking to nuke is a random dude, not a politician.

I am Canadian, and thank you for pointing this out. What a fucking mess, eh?

Hope you're doing well, and all this gets figured out soon.

Quick question: What the fuck dude?

Nationalism is a hell of a drug

[–] Ryantific_theory@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, I always figured Canada would be the last to fall in nuclear holocaust because they're, you know, Canada. Yet here we are.

[–] FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

That's the thing about nuclear holocausts: Everybody falls in a nuclear holocaust.

Why though? Why Canada?

India has its hands full already with China, and there's no ally to be found across their border with Pakistan either.

So what gives? Why go pick on Canada, just because a guy there wanted to entertain the thought of a sikh state free from India?

[–] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 1 year ago

Because Canada had the balls to say “yo why the fuck you killing someone in Canada?”

The absolute gall.

Possibly even a second guy, depending on what exactly happened to the guy in Winnipeg. Makes me wonder if just more and more of the separatist advocates are going to die in mysterious circumstances and India will keep boasting about it and threatening anyone who calls Modi out on it.

[–] IvanOverdrive@lemm.ee 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Because Modi solidifies domestic power by labeling any Sikh protestor as khalistanist (i.e. terrorist). Any whiff of separatism is a threat to his power. Canada just got in the way

India and China both understand that they aren't each other's greatest military rivals solely because the Himalayas make any large military action impossible. They also understand that they aren't each other's greatest economic rivals because their states of development complement each other.

[–] sneezymrmilo@lemmy.world 27 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Jesus christ how unhinged do you have to be to go on live television just fucking say that out loud? Actual loonies running the country there.

[–] vertigo3pc@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Decades of elections and "leadership" across most countries means lots of places have lots of people who think they know what they're doing, but really don't. So they think being in power means threatening use of power.

What would happen if a non aligned country nukes NATO? I know India is aligning themselves with Russia or atleast the news is presenting it that way but. Would all nuclear armed countries nuke India? Would it cause Russia to Nuke the USA and vice versa or would everyone nuke India or only a back and forth between NATO and India?

"How dare you accuse us of murder? If you keep this up, we'll show you our peaceful ways by force!"

[–] xerazal@lemmy.zip 20 points 1 year ago

Can we fucking not? India. Dafuq.

[–] Grant_M@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 year ago

Further proving the authoritarian Indian government are very similar to the Kremlin regime

[–] Harpsist@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

Nothing says "we didn't do it" like threatening to nuke one of the most peaceful countries in the world.

After all the worry about NATO and Russia starting WW3. It would be almost comical if it was India that did it.

Out of curiosity. What countries would back India's unprecedented surprise nuking of Canada? Or would they just be opening themselves up to being attacked by the entire planet at that point?

[–] canis_majoris@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 year ago

My favorite fact about Indian nuclear weapons is that the only way they got the tritium for the bombs from a Canadian-designed CANDU reactor. They were not supposed to generate too much tritium as a byproduct but eventually there was enough for the Indians to build the tamper for a Teller-Ulam nuke.

So hold up - does anyone have a better source? Who is this guy? What's his story? How much influence does he wield?
