In a flurry of first-day-in-office activity, Donald Trump has signed an order to rename the 617,800 sq mile Gulf of Mexico and Alaska’s 20,000ft mountain Denali.

The Gulf of Mexico will be renamed the Gulf of America, and Denali, the highest peak in North America, will revert to Mount McKinley – the name it was called before Barack Obama changed it in 2015.

The renaming of the two natural features is to honor “American greatness”, according to a preview of the orders obtained by the New York Post.

gotta keep culture war bullshit front and center - dontcha, mr. "uniter". keep everyone arguing about useless, pointless nothinginess while the world burns.

will be interesting (read: frightening) to see how this crap filters through the population and media domestically. conform or else, because language has become a wedge attached to an axe handle.

The best part is the campaign to rename it to Denali was led by Alaskan Republicans who hated that it was named after a man who never set foot in the state.

Zero people with half a brain will honor this, and it's just one of many thing that will be forgotten as soon as he's out of office. He's trying to make sure he will be remembered, but is oblivious to the fact that everyone will try to forget him as quickly as possible.

I mean he can call it the Great American Weiner Washer but I'm still not gonna follow suit.

Thankfully he forgot about the freedom fries.

I would mostly be worried how he ignores processes. There is a U.S. Board on Geographic Names for these things. A president shouldn't ignore these structures.

I also hate bureaucracy and it has to be limited as much as possible, but there are reasons why governing by decree is not a good way to govern a country. It leads to chaos.
