Ngl, I was sceptical since still images are not a good representation of what's really going on when people are moving around, but then I checked out the video. Good lord, he even did it twice.

I wondering if he did it to win a bet: "Hey man, we already get away with some fucken outlandish shit, and people ate that up. I bet you that you can't get away with throwing out a nazi salute on live tv"

fElon: hold my K...

Next he'll be wearing a swastika on his arm and claiming "oh this is just a whirling log, a symbol of prosperity and peace". And also "oh this is just a very black uniform that Hugo Boss made for me"

Guys this is a Buddhist symbol. I'm simply supporting America's religious diversity, you bigots.

I can't be fucked to go and see. Tired, been working in the cold.

Is this getting much mainstream coverage or is it being ignored?

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 1 points 42 minutes ago

Mainstream coverage seems to have been trying to tell everyone everywhere not to believe their lying eyes.

Some appear to have modified their reporting to actually say it was a Nazi salute however, ostensibly under pressure.

There's so much shit going on in the last 24 hours probably doesn't rate amongst the worst 5.

And it's day fucking 1! We still have (at least) four more YEARS of this!

I'm reminded of Trump's first term, when we all thought it couldn't possibly get any worse, and yet it always did keep getting worse.

Reminder that ~~~270~~ 170 million Americans allowed this to happen.

[–] Zagorath@aussie.zone 1 points 5 minutes ago

It's more like ~170 million. That's the population that didn't vote for Harris (i.e., voted Trump, voted third party, or did not vote) despite being eligible to vote.

[–] splinter@lemm.ee 6 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

This a good reminder that not voting is also a political position.

I think your math is a little bit off though.

There were ~244 million eligible voters in 2024. 75,017,613 voted for Harris*, which gives us ~169 million that allowed this to happen.

*The only other viable candidate, like it or not.

[–] Syrc@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Whoops, fixed. My keyboard somehow gave the blame to non-eligible voters too.

[–] splinter@lemm.ee 1 points 34 minutes ago

Maybe we shouldn’t be letting them off so easy.

Musk went from being the Henry Ford of our times to the Henry Ford of our times.
