Man, Im pro union, but goddam are they so gutless now. Yeah, lets not renew our contract for years till we decide to finally try and negotiate or threatent to strike, thats a good idea.

They did that for so long that the meager pay raises they were able to bargain for were way behind inflation.

My workplace went on strike and made national headlines. Within a day of official striking, news media were screaming for back to work legislation.

Just that alone started spooking the heads of our union and shortly after the union and a majority of the members voted 2% increases over 4 years.

Exceptionally below inflation. Over 100,000 employees voluntarily took a massive pay cut just out of fear of being legislated back.

As far as I see it, we no longer have a union.

Canada's PSC and CRA had exactly this happen. Fuck anyone who sides with the employers or the country over a person's right to fair compensation.

What happened is solidarity was made illegal and propaganda was spread so thoroughly that unions can't act like they did in the glory days anymore without being crushed by the corporations. I urge everyone reading this to join their union no matter how seemingly ineffective because people give the union power and without people unions are going to be stuck in this flimsy complacent state
