Considering that there was an assassination attempt there not that long ago, it's not surprising they increased security.
An assassination attempt was thwarted. The attempt itself never took place.
Planning to shoot the president is different than actually shooting at him.
Also putting on my conspiracy hat here for a moment. I think the assassination attempts were setups. Including the one who supposedly got his ear.

Exactly I don't care if it was just glass what not. There would be a scab something. Your ear would not magical show zero damage after two weeks.
An impact from a blunt object like a bullet would absolutely show damage, and clipping an ear would have to take a piece off.
If it was clipped by a sharp piece of broken glass or plastic it might, because cuts from sharp objects can bleed a lot but be pressed together and heal pretty well. My wife cut her finger on broken glass last week and it bled like crazy at first, but with a little pressure and a bandage for a couple of days you could barely tell it ever happened.
Trump was nicked by some shrapnel and played it up as being hit by the bullet for his base.
I got cuts to and two weeks no matter how small you could still see the cut. Only other explanation is he put makeup on the hide said cut. By why do that?
No visual shots of Trump are going to be as close as you looking at your own body.
