They're going to elect an authoritarian as president, surely that will bring down prices!

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 77 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"He's got that totally awesome plan called Tarrifs™ that is supposed to make rainbows and sunshine come pouring out of my ass and we'll all be happy again!"

....oh.... Wait....

Search trends are not useful for population studies. For example, did you even bother comparing the search trends you presented to other election years?

[–] fushuan@lemm.ee 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, questions about vot8ng will always spike after an election, not having numbers makes that increase meaningless. There was another image comparing these trends to people searching for tailor swift, which was like 8 times higher than these trends in any point of the curve. So high that the increase of this question was even hard to see.

I hate people that manipulate data presentation to twist results.

But look at that giant mountain in the graph! Its beautiful! Like the rockies or...another mountain I definitely know the name of! Uhhh Bahamas! I think thats one...

Anyways I like pretty graph!

It was just meant to be a joke not some serious documentation of information meant to be spread as absolute fact. We're in a comics group at the moment lol

It’s been coming doing for years, but much like Trump took credit for Obama’s economy, he will take credit for this too. And 50% of the country will learn the wrong lesson.

[–] CrayonRosary@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

If I've learned anything from plastic signs on the side of the road, it's "Trump low prices. Kamala high prices."

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 29 points 3 days ago

"Aren't people going to see through that?"

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 70 points 3 days ago (2 children)

"This is Joe Brandon's fault, and trump will fix it. I'm an idiot!"

  • an idiot
[–] callouscomic@lemm.ee 18 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I like what this idiot says. Is there some way I can blindly support them to rule the world like an idiot?

  • another idiot
[–] multifariace@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

You forgot the panel where they get people to blame it on raising minimum wage, through confirmation bias.

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 30 points 3 days ago (4 children)

If people pay for the higher prices then it doesn’t matter. The general public would need to boycott or literally not be able to afford the prices of the good. Unfortunately, we all are very poorly disciplined in that regard, myself included.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 25 points 3 days ago (2 children)

literally not be able to afford the prices of the good.

some of us are already here, and we're about to get a lot of company.

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Unfortunately, that’s what it’s gonna take. I’m seeing it slightly in the automobile industry.

[–] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 3 days ago

Especially if shops like Tesco as much as double your prices without loyalty cards. Tesco is the worst, haven't been there for months (as a customer).

Tesco Clubcard, Kaufland Card, Billa Bonus club, Lidl Plus (app required), Coop Jednota Club.

There is no alternative. Supermarket chains killed most small shops. Oh, and you may still need an app to manage it even if you have a plastic card.

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

That’s the spirit! Isn’t that what we pay taxes for?

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Haha sarcasm I presume. Boycotting certain restaurants or goods would be effective. I myself get take out more than I should or need to.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Unfortunately not sarcasm. When grocery stores are colluding to raise prices, what can you do?

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Fair. Essential items have gone up in price. There are other items that aren’t necessary that could be boycotted.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

People will pay whatever a company asks as long as people have money or credit. By "people" I mean the consumerist masses, not you and me.

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Haha I unfortunately count in the consumerist masses. Don’t use credit much anymore, but definitely addicted to Amazon Prime.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I actually didn't buy something I wanted yesterday and found an alternative instead because of the out of control price gouging the last few years. I bought a compost bin there 4 years ago for $24. I needed a new one and went to my purchase history to buy the same one. They want $50 now. Seriously, man? 100% price increase in 4 years? Nah man. I found something else. The worst part is that it wasn't even a good can. The lid broke after a year. $50 for a tiny one gallon trash can that'll last a year is completely ridiculous.

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

That’s ridiculous. Nothing on Amazon lasts very long these days, crazy to raise prices on low quality stuff. Good for you for finding an alternative. I always try to get the cheapest stuff. I need to be better about only getting what I need and not pulling the trigger whenever I think of something I need.

[–] Vendul@lemmy.world 23 points 3 days ago

What are they gonna do? Starve? 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 26 points 4 days ago

Unrealistic, Sir would be all about it

[–] Aksamit@slrpnk.net 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It never fails to surprise me that that is how 'yacht' is spelt.

[–] MajorMajormajormajor@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 days ago

It's a shame it's naught spelt yaught.

[–] cerement@slrpnk.net 5 points 4 days ago
[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Ok, but that doesn't really narrow it down. Who should we be focused on?

[–] wander1236@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 days ago

You.

Better watch out 👀

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)
[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

I don't think you quite grasp the meaning of the word "focus"...

[–] ContrarianTrail@lemm.ee -2 points 3 days ago

I'm starting to feel like more and more of these comics here are just political opinions not even intented to be entertaining.
