We are in the middle of moving to a new city but we managed to still squeeze in some sessions with our current group.

We played Terraforming Mars for one last time as a 4 player game. Its a bit cursed because I lost once again with a single point. We almost managed to cover the entire planet with structures. Very fun session.

We also played a 2 player session of Ark Nova - I lost that game but honestly this was good because otherwise my gf just hates the game and we would play it less.

We also played another 4 player of Burgundy which was our final game with that group.

Now looking for new players in Barcelona;)

I am still on a boardgame weekend, but so far I have played this week Root twice. I have never seen the board so dominated by the Lizard Cult. Followed by the Riverfolk. Both players played Root the first time and played each faction really well. The Riverfolk was the perfect car(d) dealer from the start.

Treehouse Diner: cute but one bad decision killed the game for me 🥲

Bitoku: still a cool Game

I went to a gaming convention so I played quite a few games:

  • Bad Company - light, fast, and fun
  • Concordia - awesome game
  • Amerigo
  • At the Gates of Loyang
  • Union Stockyards
  • Port Royal
  • Trekking Through History - excellent game
  • Nova Roma - excellent Euro, releasing in one month, was taught by the designer
  • Marrakesh
  • Gugong - wasn't a big fan

We were on holiday this week, so had to pack quite light.

We played a single game of 6-player In Vino Morte as we waited for food. This game is still insanely easy to bring to any table and is guaranteed fun for 10 minutes at a time!

We also took along River Wild, another Button Shy game. This was a great brain-burner to play with my morning coffee, even if I didn't so particularly well at all!

My partner's parents brought along Greed, a push-your-luck dice game from the 80s. Whilst it felt like it did drag on a bit long, there were some interesting rolls that kept things interesting! Probably liked this more than I should have purely because I won!

And finally, we cracked out the deck of cards to play Sevens. A simple staple, not too much to say here!

Couple of games of Memoir 44 and 7 Wonders Duel
Only 1 person was able to make game night, but we made it work :)

Having 2 players only is a great excuse to play Memoir! Which scenario did you play?

[–] BigTimePizza623@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

We only did scenarios 2 and 3. I bought it used probably almost a year ago and only got through the first scenario, sadly, before it got shelved and "forgotten" for newer/higher player count games (my usual group count is 3-4).

It went over well though, so I think we'll plan on picking up more scenarios eventually. I think the other player was surprised by how light and easy to pick up Memoir 44 was.

Played two on Saturday:

Beyond the Sun - I enjoyed this one. The game turned into a run away for one of the players who had pushed hard down the science track. I learned some lessons too latr, but that's to be expected in the first play.

Dead Men Tell No Tales - I really liked this one, but I'm a sucker for cooperative games where you're just trying to stem the tide of misery. It was the first play for everyone, so strategies started to unfold but a little too late, we lost with two treasures right beside each other left to collect.

Betrayal at the House on the HIll (explore haunted house)

Wingspan + Oceania exp (birds)

Ghost Blitz 2 (pattern match and grab)

Deja Vu (pattern match and grab)

Spot It (pattern match and grab)

Abandon all Artichokes (vegies deck-builder. discard artichoke cards to win)

Got to play Cthulhu Wars with 3 friends, one was brand new and two had played two years ago so pretty fresh all around. I had a lead as Daemon Sultan, but made a greedy ritual play and got punished hard. New player playing black goat had the win in the bag with a ritual and 6 gates, but decided not to ritual and play with her food. She ended the next (final) round with zero gates and Cthulhu took the win instead lol

Several games of Ark Nova, we both like it a lot. In the last game we put the reference sheet on a music stand to save some table space.

We also played a few games of Mille Fiori with a 2 player variant from BGG, it makes the 2p game feel a lot more competitive. I've been thinking about other types of drafts that could be applied to the game.

And finally we played a game of Lorenzo Il Magnifico, an older favorite. We played a base game in preparation to try to expansions for the first time.

Nice idea with the music stand! How is this going for you and the rules of Ark Nova?

One mistake we made for a while is that when you release an animal, you also loose the tickets/attractive that this animal provided. But other than that its really straight forward after a few games

Plays surprisingly smooth now that we are into it! Overall it's a lot less messy than I first thought. Lots of mechanism but they work well together and make sense so easy to remember.

...when you release an animal, you also loose the tickets...

Haha, we made that mistake too! But the way it works makes thematic sense. And I guess in some situations it could be used to get yourself back under 25 appeal to allow playing cards with that requirement.

Nothing, the guy that brings the house we play at went to a football game. Better luck next week.

Ooh, this week I was really looking forward to this thread because we have been playing Sail! I was having regretsies for backing it since it looked really clunky and fiddly but all that fell away as soon as I understood the game. It's just so good, tight, perfect amount of tension throughout. I was afraid it wasn't gonna feel like trick-taking but it absolutely does. I have too many 2p coops but this is my new fave.

Yes, that's right! It has a board so the tricks you take move you on the board or fight a dangerous Kraken. But like The Crew Mission Deep Sea it has the best theme and that theme is the sea!

Sushi Go, Decrypto, and Dune Imperium.

My group has basically fully converted from Codenames to Decrypto now that everybody’s familiar with the rules. They’re terrible at arriving on time, so it’s great that the game supports a ton of people, and they can join halfway through without much hassle.

Sushi Go is still great - at this point I should probably try the Party version since I’ve played it so much. Liked Coup Rebellion G54 less than the original, and that game has the same concept of “add more cards to a good base game”, so I’m hesitating…

Dune Imperium is as good as ever.

We broke out some older games that work for 5 players. A full game of Citadels and several hands of The Great Dalmuti. All card games, all with very simple rules so hardly any time was spent teaching them.

I played a game of Final Girl and lost miserably. I love the game concept and the art, but I just can't get into it (I've tried). The mechanics are too random and boring. I really want to like this game, but it's not happening, so I'm not going to back the Kickstarter.

I've also started playing Tainted Grail: Last Knight. I really liked the story in Fall off Avalon, so hopefully Last Knight is as good.

Besides physical games, I played a few async games online.

TI4 - Finished a game I've been playing for about a month. I didn't win, but I was close.

Dune - Playing as Emperor. Still pretty early in the game.

Gandhi - Playing as the Revolutionaries. Doing pretty well and it's close to the end of the game. This is probably my favorite COIN game.
