Pretty cool that he reverse-engineered it and 3D printed the fixtures. Wonder if Adam Savage has any original SFX rigs.

Tldw: It's a spring loaded mechanism making an arrow suddenly appear that previously was out of sight. Look at 0:40 in the video, the 20 seconds thereafter show all you need to know.

They are showing three things. Spring loaded mechanism. String guided arrows with small metal prongs and wooden armor. Air cannons for shooting a lot of arrows at the same time.
