In the expulsion of russian maintainers thread there are multiple people who are insulting russians as a whole. Isn't insulting people for their nationality against lemmy.world CoC? Is it allowed to insult egyptians or vietnamese people in a similar way?

This reeks of sea lioning.

Putin and everyone fueling his dumbass war can go suck a dick and choke to death on it.

I'm a simple man: I upvote anti-sealioners 🦭 arf arf!

[–] xigoi@lemmy.sdf.org -2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It’s sad that this is not obvious, but many people born in Russia do not support Putin’s actions.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The person you are replying to did not imply that all Russians support Putin.

[–] xigoi@lemmy.sdf.org -3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

The OP was concerned about hate toward Russians, and the comment I replied to said that the hate is justified, implying that the target of the hate (all Russians) is doing something to warrant the hate (supporting Putin).

This thread refers to another in which same users went as far as trying to provide scientific evidence that all russians are bad.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 24 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

If someone was to say "Americans are trying to elect a criminal for President." That would be true. Even though, I personally, am an American, and I am not trying to elect a criminal.

Sounds like you're getting insulted by assuming people mean ALL Russians, when they really mean "this specific group of Russians"

[–] index@sh.itjust.works -2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

So am i allowed to insult all Turks in general because their president is a fascist?

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sure. I'm not here to tell you what to do. You can insult me personally if you want. I don't fucking care.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

Mods cant tell difference between nornal conversion and harassment...

Half of the "insults" reportd are eggshells not looking the content or tone of the comment lol

Fucking snow flakes

[–] savvywolf@pawb.social 21 points 2 weeks ago

If you see content that you think breaks the rules, use the report feature rather than making a callout post on a random sublemmy.

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You sure seem to be pushing a lot of Russian talking points on Lemmy, comrade.

[–] index@sh.itjust.works -5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Such as? Is pointing out violation of the rules and hypocrisy a russian point?

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago

Gosh you guys are being so mean to us paid propagandists.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 0 points 2 weeks ago

Do you go on ML to explain to them how justifying a war of aggression is against the rules?

[–] Sundial@lemm.ee 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Are they insulting all Russians or the country Russia?

[–] Name@feddit.nu 6 points 2 weeks ago

Just a guess, but no? Insults are subjective I suppose and not being able to 'insult' a country or it's people would make many discussions impossible I think.

[–] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee 5 points 2 weeks ago

People should read the TOS more often.

[–] hendrik@palaver.p3x.de 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Not sure. The content policy doesn't seem to be super watertight to me. You're not allowed to attack users or groups. And "the Russians" aren't a user. And I'd say it's debatable whether "group" means group of Lemmy users or group of people in general. They also rule out other behaviour against any living being, but insulting them isn't part of what's prohibited... Just proper harassment.

So I'd say it's not very clear whether that kind of behaviour is against their rules. If you're unsure, you can always flag a comment or post and let the moderators decide. They should know. And it's their job to make that decision anyways.

Many countries suck for various reasons. But the average citizen is just trying to live their life.

[–] actually@lemmy.world -2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I agree with what you wrote but the situation will get worse over time in many social sites.

Americans and many Europeans have a terrible track record of discrimination in wartime, the last few generations, and it’s hardly going to change now. And while many of the nations are not officially at war , they are in some things that matter

Usually war has to stop for a few years before the targeted ethnic groups see a change.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 4 points 2 weeks ago

That is not specific to Americans and Europeans.
