I have just a single physical copy of a game, and I've just been leaving the disc in the console; but after seeing a few videos about older consoles and noticing the console slows down while the disc is being read I'm curious if there is danger to the disc, or the console or even if I could get a bit of a performance gain by removing it when not playing that specific game.

Hi, you dont need to remove the disc from your ps5. The ps5 doesnt slow down, only thing would be abit of disc spin noise if that annoys you and thats briefly only; you can remove it if playing other downloaded games

IIRC all games play from the SSD and the disc is only used for licensing and downloading. Leaving it in shouldn't have any adverse effects, unless you don't like the snip up noise when you turn the console on.
