"Why won't everyone become middle management?"

Not everyone gets to move up. There are less jobs at each pay level as you go up the scale. So telling people it's definitely a personal problem is ridiculous. Especially when advancement is so heavily tied to networking instead of merit. We need to treat all jobs with dignity because the truth is nobody is going to do well in their workspace if the trash is allowed to rot in place and office supplies aren't restocked regularly.
