If real then it’s a lawsuit waiting to happen. First person killed and the family sues for encouraging competition to break the law and engage in dangerous driving.

what if they called it the wall of shame instead

96 in a 45? That's only +51. What is this, amateur hour? Hell, I can do that in a fucking first-gen Prius. And the road has a long straightaway. The fuck are they scared of?

Out of my way, I'll be +100 over without breaking a sweat.

You get put on a different Leaderboard if it's the last road of your life.

In this study we preset an accurate method for determining the safe upper limit of speed for a given...

That's the loserboard. Or a scoreboard depending on the killfeed

just like the blue shells in mario cart

This may or may not be cool.

It might be the future of driving.

[–] rickyrigatoni@lemm.ee 29 points 1 day ago

This is very cool.

But it probably won't be the future of driving.

This is a Lemmy post.

The past can't be changed, and the future is unknowable.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is not cool.
And it'll probably be the future of driving.

Eh, if some shit heels are using a road to set high scores I atleast know there’s safer options.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee -4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't like names being attached to it. Maybe average and high speed instead of a "score board".

[–] SchmidtGenetics@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Found the shit heel wanting to set the high score!

Nah, name and shame, 100% that will likely actually make a difference over traffic stops or photo radar.

Nah, name and shame, 100% that will likely actually make a difference over traffic stops or photo radar.

Yeah, and when my GPS skips for a second and my speed registers as 89+mph for a few seconds as the system catches up I'll really be shamed for what a horrible person I've been!

(This isn't even a hypothetical, I regularly see my estimated speed in android auto get wonky because GPS signal isn't perfect)

[–] SchmidtGenetics@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago

If they are using single point data I guess yeah, but they would most likely use a rolling average. Average speed over 5 seconds could account for the glitch, or only continuously updated data to avoid those rubber bands.

It’s funny, I would be right there with you just having some fun with my truck/car, but yeah if it was visible like this it’s a totally different issue.

I know they can already use that data to deny warranty if I’m hooning it that like that, so yeah haha

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee -1 points 16 hours ago

I never said anything about having fun. I was talking about privacy.

hopefully the accounts can also get scores for a global leaderboard to compete internationally

[–] WijFij@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

This is both cool and not cool.

It will be the future and past of driving.
