This isn't rare or increasing, it's just that one generation is now in the age bracket for it. "Gen alpha is seeing a surge in highschool graduations" would be equally likely in the near future. It's not surprising, it's a long-standing trend associated with age.

Did you have a rebuttal to the specific claims in this article, like chlamydia (plus gonorrhea, syphilis) tripling among seniors in the past decade? It certainly sounds like it’s increasing to me, but I’m not an expert on this

I don't, I'll have to look more into it. Having (somewhat recently) done work in nursing homes, I personally didn't view this as a new problem, but my information could be biased or outdated.

STIs have been a massive issue in nursing homes for decades. What's special about boomers? Just that they're now the largest generational influx?

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (4 children)

To be fair that’s mostly my fault.

The STI rates in the coma ward are a real cause for concern.

Beyond what the article mentions (more people opting for retirement communities/assisted living/nursing homes), changing dating trends, better physical health for seniors, increasing divorce rates, etc., Id doubt there are that many other factors.

I get that it's a quote, but whatever editor wrote that headline still needs to grow up.

What so wrong about hearing elderly people talk about sex? They had sex.

Why 'S-E-X'?
Are they aware that spelling something out isn't working the same way as I'm speech - and even then, why not just talk about sex?
