On my system, it supposedly hasn't been modified since 2022, and hasn't been accessed since January. ~/.config/kdeglobals was modified today. You could just rename it to kdeglobals.bak and see what happens.

Anything happened since then? Is your system still working fine?

All seems well after a reboot. I was asleep the last few hours. ;)

Is KDE still not using ~/.config/ ? (I'm not a KDE user)

It does, but since I used Plasma 5 before, there are some old files scattered around in my home folder.

I think if you can find the same file inside .config it should be ok to remove it.
Just in case keep a backup of that file.

An easy way to test, and revert, is to just rename the top level folder.

I don't have a ~/.kde for a long time, but I did set my xdg dirs years ago too.
