And that's how you start a season y'all

[–] CMLVI@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

We made it boys.

CFB is back.

[–] g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Disappointing lack of needless surprise onside kicks this year tbh

[–] son_named_bort@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Wow, first upset of the season and it's only game 1!

[–] ToasterOverlord@fanaticus.social 6 points 2 months ago

ESPN, get your act together! If they lined up like that for the 2pt conversion, show it live!! Although I don't think that was planned. Norvell clearly was calling for the PAT just before

[–] orangeNgreen@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Wow. That was a heck of a FG to end the half.

[–] ToasterOverlord@fanaticus.social 4 points 2 months ago

I am in awe of that kick. Looked like it would have been good even further out, too, maybe up to 65 yards

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

Suck it, Noles!

[–] superduperpirate@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Is this the game in Dublin? I was forced to watch part of a Pat McAfee live broadcast from Ireland yesterday while waiting for my lunch to be cooked.

I don’t have any thoughts specific to FSU vs GT, but one of my favorite things about college football is that its arrival means the summer heat will break before too much longer.

[–] orangeNgreen@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Yup, they’re playing in Dublin.

I’m a Miami Hurricanes fan, personally. But this game has some possible conference implications for the Canes.

I just enjoy football season, generally, even if I don’t have too much time to watch games anymore.

Do not like the 2-minute warning TO. If you want to be like the NFL, make the ad breaks shorter!

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Do I dare to dream that FSU will fuck themselves over in Week Zero? 🤣

Tech came to play today.

[–] orangeNgreen@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

To the tune of the war chant: Looooong flight hooooooome…

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I will hate you later. Today, we celebrate a great day. Go Gators.

[–] orangeNgreen@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Hah! Agreed.

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

GO FOR THE 60 YARDER, YOU COWARDS!

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Of course the Irish punter is Australian-trained.

It also reminds me of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Rules_Series

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This has the vibe of a game where the talent will eventually grind it out even though the other team is executing just as well . Glad to see Tech hanging in there in the middle of the second, though.

[–] g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Counterpoint: maybe fsu is still checked out after last season and have been expecting their talent to ultimately carry them. So a prepared gt team may have a shot

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

A Gator can hope.

[–] g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Hot take: dj is a mediocre qb

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I remember he was really underwhelming at Clemson. I didn't watch the Beavs last year. To judge by realignment, I guess relatively few people did. Did he really impress so much that he should have been a target of a team with playoff aspirations?

[–] g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think he did decently well out west, and his woes at clemson were attributed to youth and an incompatible system. But idk, he just doesn't seem to read the field quickly imo.

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Certainly seems like Tech's strategy is to stay strong vs the run and dare DJ to beat them.

[–] willsenior@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago

He has no touch on deep balls, and it's going to bite FSU this season.

stfu espn about most transformative season. The gall to even imply that getting a few extra ad vessels in the form of an expanded playoff is even in the same atmosphere as some actual major evolutions of the sport like integration or the forward pass. Get off my fucking nuts bro

[–] CMLVI@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

GT marched down the field too. Might be an interesting game...

[–] ToasterOverlord@fanaticus.social 3 points 2 months ago

That near fumble could have been disastrous for Tech, but looks like they're not missing any momentum on this series

[–] TheDeepState@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah. FSU would be great in the SEC.

[–] g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (2 children)

We don't want em, hell we dont want OUTAMIZZ

[–] TheDeepState@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

I agree with not having Mizzou. But, FSU is struggling. They would have at least 4 losses in the SEC.

[–] superduperpirate@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

OUTAMIZZ = Okie, Texas, A&M, Mizzou?

[–] g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Yup, see how clear and concise it is?

[–] ToasterOverlord@fanaticus.social 3 points 2 months ago

The season is finally here!!

What a beautiful stadium. I think it'd be fun to go to one of these Ireland games someday. Shame we're stuck with Tessitore and Palmer in the booth for this one though

[–] orangeNgreen@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Closer game than I thought it’d be in the second quarter.

[–] g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Why is it so damn hard to watch espn at an out of state friend's house these days?

[–] orangeNgreen@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

FSU fans feeling antsy at this point, I can imagine.

Credit to FSU (yuck). Always use at least two of your timeouts on defense when you need another possession, and really all three if you have confidence in your game management. Your opponent will always use as much time between plays as possible. They need to learn to cram them in before the 2-minute warning though.

First quarter felt like a classic Big XII game, second quarter feeling like a classic B1G game

[–] CMLVI@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Walked it in.

[–] CMLVI@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Time to watch the race, here's hoping GT pulls it out!
