Thanks title, I definitely wouldn't have figured it out after getting to the word "acronym".

humans naturally gravitate towards phallic jokes

"I've dwelt among the humans. Their entire culture is built around their penises. It's funny to say they are small. It's funny to say they are big. I've been at parties where humans held bottles, pencils, thermoses in front of themselves and called out, 'Hey, look at me. I'm Mr. So-and-So Dick. I've got such-as-such for a penis.' I never saw it fail to get a laugh."

I recognized the name, but couldn't place it until I heard the voice.

Gotta love a good backronym.

[–] KillingAndKindess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I think in this case its an actual acronym. They came up with and named the process, so its not after the fact.

[–] awesome_lowlander@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

A backronym is an acronym formed from an already existing word by expanding its letters into the words of a phrase.

[–] ZoopZeZoop@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Also, we'd have to hear them pronounce it to know if it was an acronym or an initialism, if my understanding is correct.

Amazingly ahead of their time. They were spinning right-round before it was even in a song.

Reminds me of Post-Exertional Neuro-Immune syndrome

Oh yeah, because those initials work out so much better than the other one...

[–] shy_mia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 11 months ago

Especially considering what the context already was
