As my application mentioned, I'm not blind, but I'm interested in researching accessibility around document browsing and editing, especially with respect to the fully blind.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by 'research'? If I want to ask the rblind users about accessibility features, is that research, and do I have to forward my questions to the mods here for approval? Or is research something that takes place within accredited institutions like universities?

While it makes sense to keep research questions filed in a research subcommunity, given the modest size of rblind at present, it might be better to allow any research, and to prune away anything the mods felt was below a quality threshold.

Another option is to open an 'askblind' sub for general questions, including casual research, and retain 'research' for institution-led research. That would enable rblind to rally around official research opportunities as special events, while 'askblind' would be more casual and open to all.
