For those that have had enough of the Elon Musk worship online.

No flaming, baiting, etc. This community is intended for those opposed to the influx of Elon Musk-related advertising online. Coming here to defend Musk or his companies will not get you banned, but it likely will result in downvotes. Please use the reporting feature if you see a rule violation.

Opinions from all sides of the political spectrum are welcome here. However, we kindly ask that off-topic political discussion be kept to a minimum, so as to focus on the goal of this sub. This community is minimally moderated, so discussion and the power of upvotes/downvotes are allowed, provided lemmy.world rules are not broken.

Post links to instances of obvious Elon Musk fanboy brigading in default subreddits, lemmy/kbin communities/instances, astroturfing from Tesla/SpaceX/etc., or any articles critical of Musk, his ideas, unrealistic promises and timelines, or the working conditions at his companies.

Tesla-specific discussion can be posted here as well as our sister community /c/RealTesla.

Wouldn't criticising Twitter's inefficient moderation be covered by "free speech"? It's censorship under the guise of preservation.

[–] Brainsick@kbin.social 30 points 1 year ago

"Free expression is most important!!! (...except when you criticize us!)"

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Even censorship is a form of free speech.

Example: I used to be homeless in Los Angeles. During that time, an Occupy Wall Street protester wrote on the ground in chalk "fuck the police".

A passerby was upset at this, and they poured water over the "fuck", erasing it.

Both the protestor and the passerby had expressed themselves in their own way.

-they said, from an account they "reclaimed" from a user with little warning and no compensation. So supportive of their users!

[–] withdrawn@lemmy.world 29 points 1 year ago (2 children)

This dude went to so much trouble just to tweet as X.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 29 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They aren't tweets anymore. They are Xcrements.

[–] ikapoz@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 year ago

From this dude they always were.

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

MDMA should send a cease & desist letter.

[–] Captain_Patchy@lemmy.world 27 points 1 year ago (3 children)

First off, California has anti slapp laws, secondly, if they get to it discovery is going to be HILARIOUS.
I'm betting that the clown prince has no idea what discovery means in that sense or he'd be running in the opposite direction.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 year ago

I imagine this is all just a bunch of bullshit to distract common folk. It's the #1 tactic billionaires and the wealthy love to pull.

In short, this is likely just propaganda. The lawsuit may not have any bearing or legitimacy whatsoever.

[–] Oderus@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Space Karen could have paid the $1B penalty for backing out the Twitter deal but didn't and now he's tanked the company to the point it's worth far less than what he paid. Far more than $1B. What an absolute fucking idiot he is.

The real idiots are the ones lambasting the platform and its owner while simultaneously continuing to give the site traffic.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

CCDH is well aware and put out a press release saying that they really look forward to discovery.

[–] thann@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago

I love free speech so much I'll sue anyone who badmouths me!

[–] MargotRobbie@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm really happy that everyone just preemptively rejected hate speech here on Lemmy.

[–] ieatpillowtags@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago

Only if you ignore exploding heads…

[–] sbbday@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Where’s this “half a billion” number coming from?

[–] coffeebiscuit@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

Bots, bots everywhere …

[–] Neato@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

Probably total number of registered accounts ever. Including bots and all the people Musk banned.

[–] Zehzin@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

At X we love Hate Speech. Also we consider the word "cisgender" hate speech, but in a bad way

[–] mrneil@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Elon found the good hate speech! He IS a genius. 🤣

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh wow, I bet Musky doesn't even see the OPEN contradiction taking place in this single, succinct statement. What a fucking moron...

[–] fsxylo@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 year ago

Free speech is a dog whistle for hate speech. Now there's no contradiction if you read it like that.

It’s fascinating to me to see the subtle way that Elon is using Twitter to lie for his gain. He makes claims about free speech and spins it so that conservatives feel emboldened while being a giant hypocrite and banning people, censoring tweets he doesn’t like, and spreading misinformation to prop himself up and put his competition down.

Then he moves to the reinforcement stages of these plans by doing shit like this. It’s likely that nothing will come out of this lawsuit but that doesn’t matter. For anyone that he’s manipulating, the headline and tweet are the only things that matter. They drive the narrative forward. They have little info that can be debunked or even evaluated in any meaningful way and, by the time anyone figures out it’s a bunch of empty nonsense, he’ll move on to the next headline and tweet.

It’s kinda genius. Evil, manipulative, dangerous genius and is slowly adding to the decline of the public’s ability to assess institutions and ideas.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's not genius, it's just the same bullshit Trump has been doing this whole time...

It's really simple manipulation that any idiot can learn by simply not caring who they hurt on the way to perfecting the formula.

It's why narcissists are often so successful.

[–] dpkonofa@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It is genius because of how simple it is. Trump may not get away with it but that’s because he was President. Elon can’t be President so the scrutiny on him will be much lower.

[–] Malfeasant@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Remember before all the Obama birth certificate nonsense, there were some republicans who wanted to relax the "natural born" citizenship requirements so Schwarzenegger could run for president? I won't be surprised if they start floating that one again.

[–] CuriousLibrarian@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

First time I've heard of the Center for Countering Digital Hate. Thanks Elon. I wish I believed that he wanted to support free speech on XTwitter. But I don't. I think he just silenced CCDH for saying mean things against his thingie.

[–] becool@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Google search "Twitter Hate Speech". Everyone and their mom has been reporting on the increase in hate speech at Twitter since Musk took over. Of course, he waits to sue until a small non-profit comes along, albeit one with a stellar reputation, whose resources he can exhaust in courts, which will count as a "win" in the eyes of his worshipers.

I can see it now, "Musk defeats liberal beta SJW cucks, a decisive blow for free speech."

[–] zalack@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

There's no way the EFF wouldn't step in and help with legal bills if they needed to.

[–] m13@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Lmao! Crimethinc and It’s Going Down are still banned. The only free speech allowed on that fascist’s website is literal Nazi speech.

[–] mojo@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

Despite who's continued progress of safety? You fired your safety team!

[–] Venomnik0@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

Ahh what a man for free expression. There has never been a time where he has broke that /s

[–] poplargrove@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Twitter sided with the Turkish government and censored the accounts of political opponents ahead of a contentious election.

Twitter accused of censorship in India as it blocks Modi critics. Canadian politician, poet, an India MP and journalists are among 120 accounts that have been withheld

Very consistent with his claims /s
