I can't wait to build my own starship. Actually, that's one thing that I'm both excited about and worries me.

I mean, back in the days, playing Kingdom Hearts, I spent more time building / improving my Gummy ship than playing the actual game. Many dozens of hours. So I'm kind of excited, and I hope I won't go too far into that rabbit hole with Starfield.

Also, with a game of this scale, sometimes I end up getting tired of all the sidequests, things to visit on the map, etc. I mean, after 120 hours I kinda need closure. But that's mainly when all that's left doing is redundant (think Merlin Trials in Hogwarts Legacy...).

So I hope building and improving the spaceship is fun and that I don't get tired of playing.

What about you?

I’m worried about it being a buggy, messy disaster on launch because it’s a Bethesda game.

I’m worried I’ll sink 400 hours into it anyway because it’s a Bethesda game

I hope the vibes are good. That's really the only thing I need to get sucked in to a game. Fallout 4, Skyrim and New Vegas all had their share of issues but I was able to ignore them because the vibes were top notch. 76 had bad vibes and I could never get into it because of that. I'm scared the crafting and resource gathering will stand in the way of the world and characters and sour the vibes for me.

I'm excited to sink another 1000 hours into a Bethesda game.

My first 1000 hours was in Morrowind. I even 1000 hour'd Fallout 76.

I know what I'm in for

So fallout 76 is obviously pretty good now? I heard it had a rough launch

Base building, ship building, any kind of building is what I'm looking forward too. Having a place to call "home" in a space sim isn't very common, NMS is the only game that comes to mind.

Also just sightseeing, their "planet tech" (quotations because the transitions aren't seamless and there may be barriers, so its not really planet tech) looks pretty good, comparable to Star Citizen (way less impressive however for the aforementioned reasons). In conjunction with that the modern graphics and FSR 3 frame generation (probably). Exploring the cities, that kind of thing.

I'm not too fussed about the story, I'll probably do it but it'll be nothing more than a large side-mission; I'm in Starfield to do my thing, not Bethesda's.

Damn you're right, there's base building too. Omg. I'm scared now :P

Yeah, it's apparentely late-game though. We'll see just how late-game they mean. ~rolls sleeves~

Heh, I haven't really been reading much about the game so I just found out that we can build our ship.
So I am now excited about that.

[–] Trollivier@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

As one should, my friend!

I mean if Starfield has a similar kind of sandbox nature and modding capabilities as Skyrim, then I guess I won't be making any progress on the main quest, just like Skyrim.

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Skyrim's main quest had dragons in it, so that was kind of like a secret spice but it was still really hard to avoid getting distracted by sidequests, and I suspect Starfield will be even worse. (Unless... space-dragons?)

[–] Trollivier@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean, I'd definitely try space dragons.

[–] some_guy@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

I’d chase the space dragon if there’s space skooma

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There's a main quest in Skyrim?

[–] Lethtor@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 year ago

I think it stops after you get to whiterun and fight the first dragon

Overall I'm very optimistic about the game. I've heard some worries about not having manual landing and the size of the explorable area around your landing site, and honestly I'm fine with all that. There will have to be limitations somewhere in the game as a technical matter.

I have some worries about immersion, however. It's not completely clear from the available footage, but I believe that the cockpit usage animations may get stale really quickly. Far worse in my view is that I'm not sure that the cockpit readouts show real data (they are overlaid with the HUD, but looking at static cockpit displays does feel lazy if that is indeed the case). All of that harms immersion.

I spent so many hours building the bases in Fallout 4, especially once the mods got going!

So I'm looking forward to that, but I'm worried that the npc pathing will be bad again. They never used half the stuff I built cos they couldn't find their way up stairs and things very well.

I'm excited for the vibes and the sensation of flying through space in a ship I built. I'm a bit worried about what the performance on my Series S will be like

[–] Trollivier@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

I have the Series S as well. Crossing my fingers and toes.

Excited about pretty much everything: exploration, story, main quests, base building, ship building

Worried about some of the sidequests.being too "radiantly". I don't really need another settlement that needs my help

[–] amio@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

I really hope they've had some time to rethink Radiant a bit more between FO4 and SF than they did between Skyrim and FO4...

I'm actually a little worried about the ship building precisely because it's modular. There are a lot of cool ship designs that are only possible as one cohesive ship design.

For example, imagine trying to remake the SR1 Normandy. It'll simply never be able to look that smooth because you'll be forced to use modular little bits to make it up. A lot of ship designs will be possible, I'm sure, but I think the general aesthetic of everything will hit a hard limit.

I'm also worried about planet generation. From what we've seen there's not a huge variation in the verticality of planets or of bodies of water on those planets.

Lastly, I'm worried about the depth of the space sim elements. I know it's not really going to be a space sim what with the announcement that the economy is static, but I'd really hope for a good trading experience and space mining with some degree of depth in terms of weapons and modules that spec your ship for it.

I'm excited to see the different weapons and how we can modify them and to see if the looting and weapon/armor modification can be as addicting as FO4'S was for me.

Had the same thoughts about spaceship design. I don't really want my ship to look cobbled together. Not to mention it wouldn't make sense for re-entry, a ship has to be somewhat aerodynamic and sleek to withstand those forces.

Fallout is my all time favourite franchise because of the setting - even interpreted by different developers over the years it still draws me in. I enjoy Skyrim less so because the setting is just a little more vanilla fantasy. So my worry is that Starfield is just vanilla SF without any of the quirkiness, character, or personality that makes me love Fallout.

I’m worried that a game this big made by Bethesda is going to be horribly glitchy when the masses get ahold of it. I’m excited tho because it looks like no man’s sky 2 and it has a much improved everything system from what it looks like. I just hope it’s not so big that the quality is low.
