I saw someone describe this as Trump’s Kobayashi Maru - if he goes, he’ll get destroyed again, but if he doesn’t go, he’ll look like he’s afraid of her.

I love how on Lemmy you can be pretty sure this reference needs no explanation. We’re all nerds and I love it.

People who comment in my threads better know Star Trek.

It's the Star Trek training sim test where there's no way to actually win.

That is correct.

I just misread the comment I was replying to, as usual.

I've been about 10 levels deep into an argument with someone before I realise that I just misread what they originally said.

his best play is not to go and hope that kamala does a town hall by herself and gets hit on hard questions about Palestine, inflation, etc. I was shocked he agreed to do the first debate, should have just quit after his “win” against Biden.

If he doesn't turn up I really hope at the end of the 'debate' she looks straight down the lens of the camera, points and says "Convict Trump... Pussy!"

I don't think that he's likely to do any more debates. The last one definitely hurt him in the polls, and he's been publicly making arguments as to why he shouldn't need to do any more.

If I were gonna guess, the only way that we're going to see another debate with Trump is if he somehow falls so far behind prior to the election that his campaign thinks that a win is very unlikely and is willing to try for any Hail Mary tactic that might give Trump a shot at getting his hand back in.

And in that scenario, I don't know if Harris would agree.

And there's not much time for something like that to happen.

EDIT: Yeah:

https://www.cnn.com/2024/09/21/media/trump-second-debate-harris-vp-october-analysis/index.html

But the Trump campaign quickly responded Saturday by reiterating the Republican’s declaration that there would not be another debate, pointing to his social media post last week that read, “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!”

At a rally Saturday afternoon, Trump claimed October 23 is “just too late” because “voting has already started.”

He could drop out of the race. Then everyone wins

[–] Dkarma@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Best he can do is all caps whining on truth social. But he'll throw in a soggy diaper for free.
