The guardian has started covering the protests. Much better coverage than newscorp as usual, too.

Apparently they just casually drove a tank into the city at 3am on Saturday morning and nobody noticed. So that's fun. Apparently they've also called in cops from interstate to help

Not really. They do have an annoying reminder about creating an account (which I wish they'd not show every single article I read), but it hasn't been put behind anything. You just click the not now button and it leaves you alone until you go to a different article or refresh the page

I do see your point, though. It's annoying, and they've also implemented it in a way where it can't just be removed by nuking the element in uBlock, which arguably makes it annoying than those "sign up for our newsletter!!!!" demands that pop up on shopping websites, since they're fairly easily removed. But they do decent quality journalism, so I'm not entirely pissed about it. But there is a reason I primarily read the abc

Nah. Won’t let me access at all unless I login.

Oh, interesting. Looks like they're forcing logins on their mobile apps

Their website isn't too bad, and I hate having apps for every weird website I want to look at so I've never noticed
